Undiagnosed 5years

Hi,

I’m looking for any help to diagnose my condition as I’ve had absolutely no help from doctors. Firstly I’d like to share my symptoms - I don’t have these everyday, they occur in 3 month flare ups and last from 1 day to a month(random). I haven’t found a pattern as to why they occur and what the triggers are. My diet is healthy and I don’t eat too much processed foods. I’m of slim build and struggle to gain weight. Believe I’m about 8stone.

It all started with upper abdominal pain(under ribs from middle to left and round to back). This pain is a gnawing pain, that no medication has helped with. Actimals are the only relief and they become my whole diet when I’m ill. The pain doesn’t move and general stays on one side(left) but does radiate around the back area. I frequently suffer from some kind of reflux where acid comes into my mouth.

A new symptom of my flare up is the pain in my flanks?(hip dips) predominantly on my right side and radiates up and down my back and occasionally radiates down to my groin in the front. The pain is sudden and causes instant vomiting and weakness.

I have had multiple blood tests and ultrasounds to rule out infections and other illnesses. I have also had an endoscopy to rule out ulcers. I have taken too much medication over the years from inflammatory pills to antibiotics and gastro resistant medicine. Also tried quite a few proton pump inhibitors which I felt gave good relief, just my body got too used to them and they stopped working.

I’m honestly at my wits end. My mental health is really suffering and I feel that the doctors arent listening and are not following up on appointment requirements such as having future scans and tests. I’ve been left to deal with it alone and doctors are now guessing with medication just to try and take the pain away.

These are the main symptoms that I am struggling with apart from my mental state. I also have no issues with my bowels. I will admit that my body is always in agony. I hurt all over with pain jumping from area to area. I feel I have to use a lot of force and effort to get things done. I’m quite stubborn which doesn’t help me to rest.

I’m not taking any medication as I feel I should have a proper diagnosis before any treatment is given. How can you treat something if you don’t know what it is? Am I right?

Any ideas or suggestions will be deeply appreciated!

Afraid I don’t have any answers but I’m in a very similar situation! Some improvement in BM’s and bloating since gluten free but I’m in so much pain from my neck down to my hips in nasty spasms all over the place!Still no diagnosis, currently waiting for colonoscopy. Suspect that will come back clear so will be asking for rheumatology appointment next, I suspect fibromyalgia. Have you had gallbladder, liver, spleen and pancreas problems ruled out? Have you had a CT scan?

Check your pancreas and gallbladder. Make sure you have blood test results that are OK. Are you seeing a gastroenterologist. If not, you should. If you are completely cleared by a gastroenterologist, see a rheumatologist.

Have they checked you for fall stones? A lot of your symptoms in the upper left are like mine before my gallbladder came out. Also, have you looked up ‘GERD’? You could try following the diet recommendations for that to see if it helps for a week or two. Good luck.
