massive flare up

wow just wow, I’ve been ok for a long while and then bammmm, I just don’t know how to relieve my symptoms, really upset stomach, pain, wind, nausea, the lot. It came on so suddenly yesterday and I’ve been up all night just trying to get comfortable. I’m usually quite good at managing my IBS but this is out of control. I’ve taken all my medication and gaviscon but no relief. Any idea how I might get some relief, I’m at my wits end. Thank you for reading

Hi Cimmy, just wondering if you have got a bug from somewhere as you say you have been doing so well lately! We often forget about catching a bug and automatically think it's IBS!

hi Maureen, could well be a bug, it came on so quickly and isn’t like my typical flare up, just gonna ride it out and hope for the best. Take care and thank you for your reply

So sorry, Cimmy! Hang in there and be as kind to yourself as you know how. Make sure you’re drinking enough water, avoid known food triggers, and use all your techniques for calming anxiety - although very understandable, anxiety just makes gut problems so much worse! So, take a long bath, listen to music that calms you, whatever works for you. And just hang on in there until it passes. Hope you feel a lot better very soon!

Try consuming some plain white Jasmine rice and maybe some protein for 1-2 days until things settle. These will be digested in your small intestine with no residue going to your colon to give your system a rest.

so sorry you’ve been unwell, weirdly enough the exact same thing happened to me! Not a single real flare since last August until last weekend. I thought it was maybe caused by eating some undercooked eggs when out (on my birthday - 😪). the symptoms were at their worst the first few days afterwards (I was on the verge of going to A&E as I was sure it couldn’t just be IBS with the amount of lower abdomen pain) and it took almost a week to start feeling normal again. Defo agree with others that sometimes it’s something else but we just assume its IBS - I do think though that the IBS maybe makes the recovery from a stomach upset longer, which isn’t good. I also agree that eating plain food (BRAT) and drinking enough with electrolytes to replenish you will help. Fingers crossed you feel better soon - make sure you’re resting as that will help x

have you tried aloe Vera juice?

Aloe vera juice is soothing but it can be a bit laxative I think. It would be great for IBS C.

So sorry you've been having a bad flare or whatever is happening. I often get times with no symptoms, then suddenly flare up again and it doesn't seem to have anything to do with food or obvious stress even.

But whatever it is, keep your diet very very plain and pretty "white" because that will help to calm your gut down until you feel better. White rice, steamed or baked chicken or fish with just salt for seasoning, white toast, or the BRAT diet for a few days (bananas, rice applesauce, and toast.) Mineral water will give you some electrolytes

So sorry you’re having a bad time of it, I really do understand. Have you tried peppermint tea or peppermint cordial? I just find it soothes the tummy a little. Also use a hot water bottle or wheat bag to put on your tummy. Hope you feel better soon.

Hi Cimmy

you need to back track to when you attack started and what did you eat or drink, fruit with seeds, breads with grains, seeds, yogurt with fruit in the bottom that contain seeds, something greasy. Its something that trigger it. And most likely you will need for it to run it course. drink plenty of water.

I still having my attack and it's been 2 days, only thing that slowing it down is my IBS meds and water. I know just what your going through. finger cross it over in the next couple of hours.🥺

Hi Cimmy, just wondering if you are feeling a little better. Have things calmed down a bit now?

hi Maureen, yes things are going into he right direction thank you for asking. My tummy is still upset but not as bad as it was and the nausea has settled down thank goodness. I’m more in usual IBS mode now and that I can handle. Take care Maureen
