Keep getting caught out.

Had a great day yesterday. Today started sweating with cramps and diarrhoea. If it is going to happen it is always four hours after eating. Not sure if it was the multi vitamin or the ginger biscuits. I had checked there was no lactose involved but didn't until after the event see there was fructose.

Is anyone else affected by fructose?

Ginger biscuits from the Spar shop. Have been trying to up my calories as bread tends to give me acid reflux. Only are five but it may be the combination of food. Even some mints have sucrose!!

It is usually about four hours. I get the flushing and sweating. It is so disheartening as peas, carrots and potatoes can affect me too.

Thank you for your detailed reply.

On a more positive note I am fine with chicken, fish and eggs and salad.

Have always been lactose intolerant but since finishing antibiotics last November my gut has a mind of its own.

Hi, I have heard that after finishing a course of antibiotics, weeks, even months afterwards, you can develop a side effective called. C. Difficul. This can be very serious at times and needs to be checked out by a Doctor. In the meantime, maybe try a probiotic to put some good flora back in your stomach and ask if you can be prescribed Bentyl. It is an antispasmidic. You take it 30 minutes before a meal and at bedtime. Up to 4 times a day. It will help with pain, bloating, spasms, diarrhea, etc. Make sure to see a Doctor that you did not get the C. Difficil from the Antibiotics. I take them alot and have gotten this week's after after I have stopped taking them.

Thank you Little Toad. You have such knowledge. I shall let you know how it goes. Today has been a better day as I have gone back to very basic as per your list. I hope eventually that I will be able to reintroduce.

After twenty four hours stomach still feel as if I have been scoured.

No the biscuits didn't mention golden syrup. Just saw the fructose. Had some delicious oat biscuits today.

Hope you have had a good day and thank you again.

Hello,

Sorry you have been suffering, I hope you are feeling better now. I am new to the community and just saw your post when researching fructose.

I just wanted to say, that fructose can definitely be a IBS trigger. There is a recommendation for a low FODMAP diet now which includes fructose. I can't say I stick to it religiously but my main issue is wheat and fructose intolerance. Fructose tends to give me bloating and upset stomach, if I eat enough of it I will get a headache and feel fuzzy headed the next day.

If you have found that fructose is a trigger food (I realise your original post was 7 months ago!) be aware that fructose can be listed in ingredients as many other things. E.g invert sugar syrup is a fructose-glucose mix, other things to watch out for include, golden syrup, honey, fruit juices etc.

I hope your managing to get on top of your IBS.
