Trouble getting back to normality after diarrhoea?

Hi folks, first post so please forgive any formatting error or anything! I was just wondering if anyone else seems to take days on end to feel alright after a bout of diarrhoea?

TMI incoming: I had a particularly nasty bout of diarrhoea Saturday night going into Sunday morning, very little sleep ending in total liquid. Usually for me, I'll feel iffy the rest of the day and be scared to pass gas because I'm worried I might have an accident! After the day I tend to be fine and go back to the usual constipation.

This time I just haven't gotten back to normal. Days later and my guts are still bubbling in that worrying way that doesn't feel like gas, it is gas, but it doesn't feel right. Plus anytime I have to pass gas, it feels more like I need to run and poo instead. I've only had 2 poops since which isn't that odd for me but my guts don't feel right at all.

Has anyone else had/having this? Is there any tips on something to help this because it really isn't fun.

Thanks in advance! Sorry for the long post!

If you want to give your colon a rest for a couple of days, you could try just eating white rice and lean protein, which will be digested in the small intestine leaving nothing for the colon, plus this will stop the gas. When things feel more settled (and you'll be getting constipated by then), you could try introducing a veg that you normally digest well such as cooked carrots. Gradually then start to introduce more things working towards getting back to your normal diet. Good luck.

Thank you :) I'm just fed up of feeling like I have to run when my guts do that bad bubble feeling 😅

Yes. Horrible isn't it. IBS symptoms can come and go, so hopefully things will start to settle soon.

For me, it depends what has caused the D. If I am cross contaminated with wheat (I'm allergic) I can be on the loo for at least a couple of days, and then feel wiped out for about a week. It does vary though.

Honestly I think it was fat that did it. Ate a lot of fat off a lump of beef. Usually I'm fine with beef n such but I suppose its been too much

It could be. Have you heard of Bile Acid Malabsorption? Not well known by GPs. My brother has it and has a monthly injection and a daily sequestrant to control the symptoms. He also has Crohns. Too much fat sometimes catches me out too.

I feel your pain. If I have a bad flare up, it can take a while for my tummy to settle again. As mentioned by others, give your digestion a rest. For me, eating bland food, drinking plenty of water (to avoid dehydration), peppermint tea and natural probiotic yogurt helps. I also double my dose of Buscopan (taking 2 tablets instead of 1). If it continues, it might be worth speaking to your doctor. Hope you feel better soon.

I've actually had quite a few people reccomend peppermint tea and I never got around to it but I'm definitely gonna have to give it a go!

I have just had a bout of diarrhoea after nearly 2 weeks of constipation and hardly going at all. Took a Laxido in the end. Now feel grotty today, very bad headache which i cant shift, and my tummy feels blocked again. You would think the diarrhoea would leave me empty not blocked again! Its endless

Absolutely this! You'd never think you could be constipated with diarrhoea at the same time 😞 I've been so exhausted since and it doesn't matter if I have a good nap, I'll want another within 2 hours
