Redundant bowel: Had a colonoscopy on Friday... - IBS Network
Redundant bowel
I have just googled it and it sounds the same as what I have. I have slow transit constipation (the nerves and muscles in my bowel don't work) my bowel was very long, floppy and loopy due to years of severe constipation because of an undiagnosed under active thyroid. I kept getting rushed into hospital with volvolus causing bowel obstruction. This went on for 2 years until last March I had major surgery to remove my sigmoid colon. I am much better now but am on a gluten, dairy and soya free diet and have to take laxido every day. What are your symptoms?
Yes I also looked it up my symptoms are the same as yours this has been going on for years, severe pain on my left side and have had 3 accidents when I was out shopping. Hope they can do a operation like you had. Glad you are feeling better now. Thank you so much for replying you have really helped
How many Laxido do you take a day please i have similar trouble
I'm taking peppermint oil capsules and buscopan tablets also fibregel, but nothing helps if anything I think it makes it worse to be honest
Ok please cut the buscopan, it slows the natural transition in the bowel if used too frequently, same with colofac. Fibregel bulks the bowel, you need to drink a lot if taking this, it never suited me, gave me lots of wind and cramps. I've had some success with movicol powders, you can take several a day for severe impaction..I am down to one a day, some days i can do without any. its worth a try, ive suffered since childhood and tried many different diets including wheat free. The low fodmap diet helped me identify foods that caused excess gas in my bowel and too much fibre actually made things a lot worse, so i was eating what i thought was a good healthy diet lots of fruit, veg and salad but it was making my symptoms worse. Drink lots, exercise daily try the movicol..good luck!
When I was diagnosed many years ago, my medics told me I had a spastic colon!!
Mine too!!!
Been a lifelong problem for me, some days i literally struggle to leave the house..taken a very long time to get a grip on my symptoms and how to liove with the condition
I'm really pleased you have found some relief and you are right drinking lots is essential, however, there's a big difference between UC and a spastic colon. As a long term sufferer I have wasted a lot of money over the years on supplements, gels etc
