After MRI/2 colonoscopies and now seeing a Gastro consultant he has diagnosed Visceral Hypersensitivity and advised stronger pain killers when bad bout.
Does anyone else out there suffer from this and have any advise, dietary etc please?
Thanks

Hello Caroline...just an idea: this sounds like a condition that could be related to a connective tissue disorder of immune dysfunction. Are you diagnosed with any such conditions e.g. A form of hypermobility like Ehlers Danlos Syndrome, or a for of autoimmunity like Systemic Lupus or Sjogrens? My feeling is that your gastro may well be onto something, but he us diagnosing the GI effect of an underlying systemic more primary condition?
Interested to see you commenting on this Coco - just had this diagnosis yesterday from my GP and think it just HAS to be connected to my Sjogrens in some way. He has prescribed imipramine to see if this will help the overactive nerve response. I do have the hypermobility but no EDS diagnosis. Teresa.
👋👋👋👋. Oh gosh, hope this diagnosis & treatment help you, teresa! Am I remembering correctly: you've been having gastroenterology investigations? If you feel like chatting a wee bit about this, I'm up for it because am still in my 16 month flare being investigated by he Apelvic Multidiscipline Team (urology, gynaecology, WHS Physio, colorectal etc) and now it's gastroenterology' turn to investigate ...gastroscopy + colonoscopy coming up v soon. Am going to google imipramine now. So if you feel like a little chatting: please private message me (but no hard feelings I you don't 😉)
Stronger pain killers? If they are prescribing opiates of any strength, you will get constipation and all the pain that comes with it. I have been on strong pain-killers for 5 years--I have had IBS for 30 years on and off--last night that horrible sharp stabbing gas pain between the shoulder blades--I finally sucked it up and took dulcolax--which works but has me on the toilet for 2 days every 15 mins or so--I have to do this or with the meds I take I would never go to the bathroom. I really have to decide if my medical conditions are worth the horrifying constipation. Believe me--the list of health problems I have are disturbing and even with pain killers--excruciating. I don't want to even imagine the pain if I stopped them, but this constipation is also killer--I easily go a week or two with no bm, if I don't take dulcolax. The fiber bulking type of stool softener does not work. Basically when you take opiates it cause your intestinal process to almost shut down, so you need a med that will start up your intestines--unfortunately you get very painful cramps--but I hate the bloating and gas pains I have with the constipation, so both stink. Just remember painkillers bring on killer constipation, even a mild one like tramadol. Good luck
