Visceral pain: Has anyone successfully managed... - IBS Network
Visceral pain
Hi, I also suffer with Chronic visceral pain, I find a hot water bottle placed on my lower abdomen helps, I also take two paracetamol tablets at the same time, the pain eases for a few hours to allow me to carry on with my day.Gastro prescribed me amytryptylene tablets about two years ago I take 10ml at night to help me sleep, just having to learn to live with it, I get good days and really bad days, find it getting worse as I am getting older.
Just to let you know I sent you a private message on Chat in case you hadn't seen it!
Maureeen, Your message will not enable me to go into chat ?
From what I understand after 40 years or misery, research, docs and all attempts to end the cycle , the tendency to have visceral pain is hardwired and the only relief I have foun is to reduce the FODMAP’s in my diet and therefore reduce the swelling in large intestine that causes the visceral pain. I have had some positive results in ameliorating a severe attack of bloat and pain by using chinchona officianialis (OTC homeopathic can get on Amazon or any health site) . The Monash University FODMAP diet (YOU TUBE and google search) is very well researched and accepted by most gastro docs…apparently “cutting edge” way to manage excess gas that causes pain. It is challenging to follow yet not as “challenging” as the misery of bloating and pain. behj
Oh, not had that before, maybe it's something new. Here's what I put anyway. Nothing exciting I'm afraid!
Hi, I hope you don't mind me messaging you.
I haven't come up with any solutions for the pain but just wanted to say that I have been having a few balance problems of late myself.
I am here if you want to chat.
I'm 63 and have had IBS for 35 years!
All the best, Maureen
Oh Maureen, it is always good to have contact from you. That's intresting to hear that you too have had balance issues. ~The Cyclizine the GP gave me 10 days ago don't appear to have done much. It seems I am in constant pain. Always have terrible trapped wind pain on rising for which I take 5mg Diazeoam to try and relax the tummy muscles. I have been constipated for 4 days even though I take |Prucalopride and 2 Dolcolax. As I have slow transit, it finally began to move about an hour ago and then it's about 8 trips to go. It feels sore and still painful. I wil need to take Oramorph as my son wants to come and see me at midday. I keep putting him off as I don't want him to see me in such agony. I am seeing a clinical psychologist privately on Friday so see what this brings. It would be lovely to keep in touch. I am 74 and was as fit as a fiddle until this started when I was 70. Had 10 glorious years of retirement and then this bombshell which nobody sees able to help with.
It would be good to chat privately rather than on here where everyone can see what we are saying. Can I suggest you follow me if that is the only way we can talk on Chat. I hope Friday goes well for you. Let me/us know how you get on.
I will try. Do you experuence agonising pain Maureen?
Yes!
This is getting beyond me, can't believe it's IBS. Seeing clinical psychologist today.
Let me know how you get on, sounds interesting. I presume this is not on NHS!?
No Maureen, it's private. But don't know where else to go!. Warwick Hospital offer this service where I went 2 years ago but because I am in Coventry they will not take me. It was helpful last time so I'm hoping this nice c/psychologist can help me. Seeing her again next week. Never felt so bad, anxiety wise and pain wise. Surely this is not IBS-C?!!!!
Well I hope it helps, keep me up to date with how it goes. It will just be nice to have someone listen to you, even if you do have to pay for it!
Maureen, had 3 bad nights but none as bad as last night. Woke at 2.30 am with trapped wind. Uncomfortable to sit or lie down, just walked roound. Eventually called husband from sleep at 5.30, gave me hot water and was able to produce BMs but would not release trapped gas. Husband called 111 and as a result had a call from our GP at 8.30. Recommended Buscupan (which hasn't helpef me before), 4 times a day and to keep the mint tea going. GP said it could be twistd so keep moving about - not easy with this labyrinthitis! How bad can this thing called IBS be?!!!!!
I guess the air can't get past the poo! Personally I am more diarrhoea than constipation. But I hold it sometimes and then end up not being able to get it out. I don't suppose it will help but I always have a hot drink or two before trying to go. Tea or coffee. Coffee helps you go, I read yesterday that it's better to drink decaf (which I generall do) as the caffeine has a constipating effect! Have you tried suppositories to get things moving a bit. I used them a couple of times for my son when he was little and they more or less worked straight away.
But IBS can get very bad, it's not a trivial thing like people think it is. It has totally wrecked my life. I don't even know if I will be able to get to my son's wedding when they arranged it!
Maureen, yes indeed IBS is far from a trivial complaint. Feel absolutely awful today all over my body and now wondering whether I have fibromyalgia - a friend of mine has it and she gets pains all over the body. Will be glad when Friday is over and hopefully the Botox will have been done for the rectum. I don't know how you have put up with this dreadful complaint for all these years - you must have a strong character. I am doing some work on the anxiety that the clinical psychologist has sent me - seeing her again on the 20th. Take care and hoping that you have some better days.
It's funny you should say that as I think I have fibro as well! For some years now I have had pains, started in my legs, then my feet and toes. Then I started getting pains in my arms which went down into my hands and fingers and more recently I have pains in my face, my jaw, my eyes and ears and feels like I have wires runny through my teeth! So, I'm thinking the IBS caused fibro which has caused TMJD!
FODMAP diet is known to help reduce the tight bloating ‘wind’ pain as another poster said. Works for me. Helps to have support from dietician when following this. Worth a try!
