Has anyone suffered weight loss as a result of taking imodium/loperamide? Thanks.

I'd assume the weight loss is due to the problems associated with needing to take them, rather than as a side effect of taking them. How regularly do you use them?

Thanks for your reply. I take imodium daily. It gives me better control of my bowels and makes my stools firmer and easier to pass. Most days I only take half an imodium. On more stressful days I up the dose. I don't get any constipation, imodium actually helps regulate my bowel movements.

I think I've lost around half a stone in weight. It could well be other factors that have caused this, I just wanted to see if imodium may have played some part.

If anything Imodium makes me heavier because it bloats me. Your weight loss is probably from the diarrhoea.

Have you tried intolerance tests to see if you have become intolerant of any food groups.

You could leave dairy out of your diet for about 2/3 weeks keeping a food and bowel movement diary to see what changes there may be

Some people are also intolerant of wheat but are not coeliac

You may be able to stop taking drugs to control your symptoms

My suggestion, based on success from recommendations on this forum, is to try low FODMAP diet and kefir milk. Both made a huge difference to my IBS-D and I now only need half an imodium if going out for a day and don't know where the toilets will be.

No. No problems with Loperamide

I take immodium for going out.

I have lost weight but not due to immodium but from lack of appetite plus so many foods to avoid.

I play golf and for that take 4 at a time as it is not a good place to be with ibsd.

I would be lost without it .

I wish. The amount I take on a daily basis would mean I would be sylph like!! I really don't think that it is the Loperamide causing your weight loss.

I also take imodium daily as well and I cant leave the house without taking them now!! I havent had any weight gain or loss from it but when I first got IBS I lost around 1 stone from not eating as I was scared of getting stomach pains! Could be from stress or always going to the loo!
