Imodium Plus Comfort

I suffer from what I suspect to be IBS with symptoms of stomach cramps, bloating and constipation. I'm doing the low FODMAP diet and in the re-introduction phase

I picked up some Imodium Plus Comfort yesterday, so I can have these at the ready to take when I get my next flare up.

I'm wondering if anyone on here has tried these and how they found them?

Thanks, John

Hi, John..if you have constipation, I don't know if the Immodium would be helpful..it is mostly used to stop diarrhea..and it will only constipate you further. For the constipation..have you tried Fiber, or Fiber supplements to help move the stool along? Ground flaxseed is also a good home remedy, as is Apple, prune or Pear juice, prunes, raisins, pineapple, strong black coffee, Blackstrap mollases. There is also another home remedy where you take virgin Olive oil, maybe with a little lemon juice, and take a tablespoon before bed and a tablespoon first thing in morning. Some people swear by Apple Cider vinegar. The "Braggs" one is usually the best. Again..before bed, and first thing in morning. Drink through a straw though as it is very acidic and can do some damage to your teeth. Some people use coffee..strong black..to have a bowel movement. These are all natural laxatives.

I drink strong instant (works better than brewed) black coffee..the "psst" brand..with six packs of Stevia sweetener. After 2 mugs..believe me, it works..lol. Have you been prescribed anything like "Linzess", "Relistor", or "Trulance"? These are not laxatives, but medication to help you have a bowel movement daily. Insurance will pay for these, but you need a prescription. Have you been diagnosed with anything..IBS..or any tests? Colonoscopy..to make sure there is no blockage, etc. Or any other testing? Have you tried Magnesium citrate powder or capsules? Or Natural Calm? This is also a natural laxative and is also very calming..helps with anxiety and sleep too. What about Senna-lax or a over counter stimulant laxative, or Lactulose, Milk of Magnesia, Docusate Sodium, etc? For cramping, have you tried Bentyl, or Levsin? I am prescribed this..taken 4 times a day either before or after meals and bedtime. Some people swear by "Heather's Tummy Tamers" or Peppermint oil capsules..hope this helps a bit, but try not to take Immodium..as it is for loose stools..to stop that, but not for constipation..keep us posted..

Hi Eliana,

Thank you so much for your suggestions.

Some of your suggestions are unfortunately not allowed within the constraints of my low FODMAP regime but the 'safe'ones I'll look into.

The Imodium I'm referring to, isn't for constipation and instead claims to treat boating, wind and stomach cramps.

imodium.co.uk/products/main...

Like you say, regular Imodium wouldn't be good for me with my constipation 😀

I do have double espresso's on a regular basis but didn't realise they might help.

I have found peppermint capsules do help a little.

Thank you,

John

Hi John,

The lowFODMAP diet from what a gastro told me is very restrictive..and should only be done for a limited time, as it lacks proper nutrition for a long term basis. I suffer from chronic and severe constipation, and unfortunately the low FODMAP does not help. I have found that for bloating, wind, etc..that Mylanta helps..when I went to E.R. they have me a bottle similar to Mylanta, and it also seems to help with pain I get under my left rib cage. I hope you feel better soon..have you tried Benefiber..or a Probiotic like "Align" for better digestion? I'm in the States..

Hi Eliana,

Thank you again for your suggestions.

I'm at rather a loss at to any options that seem to help other than following a low FODMAP diet. I've gone beyond the elimination phase and am starting to re-introduce some foods. Not had a great success unfortunately. I seem intolerant to Lactose and also the FODMAP group that contains the Allium family.

Unfortunately I couldn't find any way to get hold of Mylanta but did find the others easily available. I have tried many probiotics thus far without any improvement but happy to give others a go on recommendation.

Very sorry to hear of your symptoms. You do have my sympathies.

Hopefully I'm not stating anything too obvious and I'll sure you've probably tried these suggestions already but I find being active and mobile, along with drinking lots of water helps to get things moving somewhat.

Sadly for me as my work is desk bound, this isn't always possible and especially in the winter.

I'm in the UK.

John

Hi John,

I had a car accident, and am saving up for a new car. Transportation is very limited in the small town I live in. So..I walk every day..about 8-10 blocks 5 days a week. I drink 8-10 glasses of water a day..but so far, nothing seems to help. I had a anal mamnotry test done about a week ago..just got results back..showed I had weak pelvic floor sphincter muscle function and prolapsed internal hemmorhoids. They want me to go and have "kegal exercises" physical therapy..but unfortunately it is too far, it is out of the zone, transportation takes people to, and I don't want to bother my case manager to take me that far. But until I can figure out how I can get to physical therapy and possible hemmorhoid surgery (a bit nervous about this) at least now I don't have to keep guessing as to what is causing the IBS-C. Just tired of suffering and having no quality of life. I have to be on a low residue, fiber diet as well, as fiber makes things worse for me. Well..I just wish for a cure, and Hope we both feel better soon..

Hi Eliana,

So sorry to hear of your accident. I've been fortunate (thus far) not to be involved in anything myself but imagine it must be very traumatic and not just in the physical sense either.

Well done on your walking and water drinking habits.

I tried the Kegal exercises once and it seemed only to result in me having a desperate urge to wee which then persisted for a few weeks to the point where I thought I had a bladder infection. Maybe I was just doing the thing all wrong but have avoided ever since.

Yes, these sufferings do seem to take over your life leave very little for 'living' in the normal sense.

I'm rather persistent and will keep on plugging away and looking for an improvement in things and hopefully more than that some day.

Yes..I can relate..to the pelvic Kegal exercises..and also internal hemmorhoid surgery. I wonder if any of this will even help with constipation or just contribute more to all the medical bills and co-pays I have. It seems there is no answer sometimes..

Imodium in any form contains loperamide hydrochloride which stops diarreah so will make your constipation worse(I checked out your link and it does say they treat diarreah)

You need simeticone to help gas and bloating, the FODMAP diet is too restrictive and can stop you getting the fibre you need to help relieve constipation so can also have a negative impact.

I see, thank you for your comments.

I'll get onto Amazon and hopefully be more equipped to tackle my next flare up.

Not planning on being on low FODMAP for too long, in fact, the diet is so uninspiring in itching all the time to challenge it and push the boundaries.

Thanks.

IMODIUM® Plus Comfort tablets work to quickly relieve diarrhoea within 1 hour, while also soothing painful cramps, uncomfortable bloating and embarrassing wind.

Used to treat short-lived bouts of diarrhoea, the tablets contain an additional ingredient called Simeticone, which helps ease excess gas in the gut and relieve painful accompanying symptoms.

This is from the link you posted.

I haven't tried Imodium Plus Comfort (Just regular Imodium). I don't know whether you can get a product called Tasectan, based in the Netherlands, as available in Russia, maybe the UK and elsewhere in Europe, in America? I don't know. However that has worked for me. Tasectan. Might help as well. (I have long term IBS-D myself). Good also for gas and bloating as well. My predominant symptoms are noisy gut, painful intestinal cramping, and of course diarrhoea, from mild to outright 'full opened valve', uncontrollable violent attack (sometimes leading to some very embarrassing public messy accidents). NO fun!

Apologies for my slow response... It's that crazy time of year again!

Thank you for your suggestions.

Your symptoms sound like mine apart from the diarrhoea... that symptom I never get myself and very sorry to hear of your difficulties.

instead, I get more of lots of trips to the loo but never being fully emptied, so to speak.

I have tried them when I go into the diarrhoea phase of my mixed ibs, they do help but you can get Imodium IBS Relief liquid capsules which are designed to be gentler on the system

Thank you, I'll check those out too.

I'm rapidly becoming a mobile pharmacy I feel, with all the medicines I have in my bag that I take to work!

Hi John, you could try Senocalm, they are Simethicone and Peppermint Oil (only). I have tried them and they didn't do much for me but nor has anything else I have tried in the last 30 plus years. Might be worth trying them though, they might help a bit, we are all different. I believe Simethicone is what they give to babies for colic. Maureen.

Thank you for your suggestions.

These sound like quite a good option as like you say, they contain the peppermint oil but also the Simethicone.

Thanks.
