Statins -should I have accepted when offered? What would others do?
Two months ago I had a routine cholesterol test and the dr was happy enough with the results [total 6.6; HDL 2.8*; ratio 2.4; se non HDL 3.8] although she thought the total was rather high she said the LDL [se non HDL?] of 3.8 and the ratio were fine. The HDL of 2.8* she thought OK too. My routine check

Diabetes - possible causes and some suggestions for new diabetics fo reversal.
I have been given to understand by my doctors that diabetes can only be managed, not cured. But people who follow the LCHF diet and those who follow the starch diet have reversed the condition. Reversed means that whatever was there, is still ahead if we follow the same path. The sad thing is that MBBS

PCSK-9
Interested to see that PCSK-9 is now available. I have FH and took part in a trial for this drug. Injected once every two weeks along with a real or placebo statin my cholestrol was reduced by half!

Lancet Letter now published
Our small letter comparing rat and human thyroid function is now out in the Lancet. This is only a small communication replying to Bianco et al's earlier one in which he was certainly trying to steal a march on us re supporting the use of T3 as an additional supplement in thyroid failure from a "rat"

cholesterol measurements
Can someone explain the way cholesterol measurements are recorded now. Until 2 years or so ago you had : Total; HDL; ratio; LDL and triglycerides. Now you have Total; HDL; ratio; and se no HDL. This last measurement puzzles me and what does the 'se no' stand for? I understand it is LDL and trigs combined

Sprouts in LCHF diet
Can Sprouts / Sproutted Pulses be included in LCHF, may be for Breakfast/ Lunch? If yes, should they be used Raw or we can half cook them? Would we lose any advantages?

Rising cholesterol
I haven't written on this site for over a year so hello again! I just wondered whether I am likely to be offered a statin at my next drs visit in about 6 weeks. my BP had suddenly shot up to 150<> /90<> when I had my 6 month check up in September for no apparent reason. In the surgery it was 200/100

Diet Doctor - LCHF
I'm having a look at the low carb high fat way of eating, just out of interest really. I've done every diet going and am now trying to make better choices rather than "do a diet" which I hope will provide sustainable weight loss. Anyhow I'm looking at the low carb high fat to see if this would be a good

informed consent to treatment
On one of the other posts someone said that they wanted everyone with FH in the country to be identified. That's fine, but what if they don't want to be identified themselves? I really really wish that the GP I saw at the doctors surgery had never mentioned my cholesterol level. I hadn't asked for

Hi, was diagnosed with familial hyperlipidemia when I was 20, after my mum had strokes we were all screened. Only myself (youngest) and my eldest sister had inherited high cholesterol. LFT's persist in being abnormal
Hi, Since an acute episode in May this year with all the hallmarks of a PE (positive D-dimer, positive ECG) but a negative CT scan effectively ruling PE out, my lung function tests remain abnormal (though improved). I have a stable mixed form of asthma which doctors agree is not the cause of my lung
