Statin Dilemma
I am a 61 year old woman; I was diagnosed with high cholesterol two and a half years ago. I had that appointment at the Lipid Clinic, and was advised to start a small dose of Statins, Simvastatin. At that time I refused to take the statins and was left to be reviewed at a later date. I was told that

Cystatin C test results - what does it mean?
My cystatin c result was 1.13 and most recent egfr was 49. Protein in urine: 2+. 72 yo female, no diabetes or hypertension. Appt. with nephrologist in two week. I know the egfr translates to stage 3 ckd but don't know significance of 1.13 cystatin c other than it's elevated. I have a feeling my neph

Paroxetine aka Paxil - Last Chance Saloon......
After an almost 3 HOUR (!) appointment with my psychiatrist yesterday after my GP wrote to him saying that he had grave concerns about my suicidal ideation, it has now been agreed that I will start Paroxetine at a low dose. I now also have a further tweak to my diagnosis - adding in Briquet's Syndrome

Portal hypertension and pregnancy, anyone else able to share their experiences?
I'd love to hear from anyone who had managed a pregnancy with history of portal hypertension (esophageal varices). I've had a lot of negativity from my obstetrician, but my gastroenterologist is quite positive. I'm finding it hard to find anyone who has experienced similar? For context, my portal hypertension

daytime nausea
Hello - had SRT that ended 10/31/17 --- PSA low, but not low enough at .38... For the past 2 / 3 months have experienced daytime nausea - no vomiting, blood, etc. Appitite is still good. My question - could the IMRT be causing this or the lupron I took for a year?

IBS - Seems to have gone away since cutting out carbs and sugars....
I was just looking at this webpage, and wanted to share it: High FODMAP foods list: https://www.healthline.com/nutrition/fodmaps-101#high-fodmap-foods But realized the best place to post it would be on the IBS forums, and then I thought momentarily about the fact that I have had zero IBS issues, since

High cholesterol Hashimotos
My recent cholesterol result was 7.7 which is up from December last year when it was 6.7. My Endo confirmed that it’s high because of thyroid disease, my gp had previously said otherwise. My Mum had high cholesterol and took statins, she was never diagnosed with thyroid disease. I just don’t know what

High blood pressure, high cholesterol - Oops
Just moved house and a new doctor did the usual blood tests as a new patient. Together with blood pressure monitoring, I am now told I have high blood pressure and my cholesterol is extremely high. Tried statins 10 years ago, which made me look and feel like an old lady. Now I am trying again,

Interesting research: lupus and a new probiotic
Hello everyone, I found this abstract very interesting: https://www.fasebj.org/doi/abs/10.1096/fj.201900545RR The experiment involved mice, not humans, but it looks promising for us, too. Reading around, I found that this bacteria can occur in naturally fermented sauerkraut. It is now available as

High cholesterol
Hi everyone, I’m new here! I am a slim 26 yr old so never thought I had to worry about my cholesterol just yet. However, I was called in to see my doctor because he was worried about how high my cholesterol was (I can’t remember the exact number). Heart problems run in my family and so I’m quite worried
