Dad is in his 4th week on a ventilator after Septic shock
They are talking of a
tracheostomy
( which they thought he wouldn’t need) and are considering a brain scan. We were so pleased he has fought the infection but now we feel pretty hopeless and helpless.

Broken spine; broken ribs... encouragement
After 'successful' surgery on his spine, he's been in an induced coma these last eight days, Today, before the doctors tried to wake him; they performed a
tracheostomy
, as he was fighting against all the tubes inside his mouth. Hopefully tomorrow they will be able to come with a diagnosis.

Coping with emotions and rejection from family after suicide attempt left me in ITU
I am 3 months after spending 5 weeks in ITU in a coma on life support with a tracheotomy and then another 7 weeks on HDU and then a liver ward after multi organ failure due to an overdose. I had had my children taken me by social services a few weeks before for not being able to care for them properly

Post sepsis recovery and syndrome
First I would like to thank the community and everyone that posts about their experience. This has made understanding the processes and what my little sister is going through so much easier. My sister is 27 and has been in the ICU since September. We were approached on the second week to take part in

Update and Advice on delirium please
At 3weeks he had his breathing tube taken out of his mouth and had a
tracheostomy
fitted. He was then kept sedated for a further 5days or so. Once the sedation was stopped, ok he was confused sometimes but was able to communicate and it was like having him back with us.

Sepsis and meningitis
Now he is off intensive care, off all life support and breathing independently, although he has a
tracheostomy
fitted. He will lose the fingers on 1 hand and all his toes. We are into day 4 of no sedation but he just isn't waking up.

Hi, where do I start. My wife for a long time has had recurrent Lung Infections, Pneumonia, Pleurisy etc. In 2013 she was unable to work for 6 months due to Pleurisy and that is where this story begins. Investigations began as to how a young woman (39 at the time) kept getting chest infections. My

However, when I woke I spoke (well wrote as I had a
tracheostomy
) of things that had been spoke about while I was in a coma. I am now a student nurse hoping to work in ICU when I qualify. I have had a placement on there and found it so rewarding that I can empathise with patients. Katie

At some point on the Monday I went into bronchial spasyms - as a result I was put in an induced coma for 9 days and was bought out of this with a

Small Progress
(He doesn't get any point based on verbal assessment as he has a
tracheostomy
fitted so I believe they put a T down for that) Small progress in my eyes and he has also been moving away when we tickle him as he hates being tickled and he's been blinking and opening his eyes more often. Xx

New but not so new!
He still had a wound from his
tracheostomy
(done to wean him off the large ventilator) and it took nearly 2 hours to get him up, showered and dressed. It helped so much to know that the problems he had were common and I think my "caring" education was conducted via this site!

Coma
My brother in law and my sister were assaulted on the 18th June. The attack resulted in my brother in law suffering from a TBI and is now in a coma (not an induced coma) he has a GCS score of 4 and we've been told it's likely he may never wake up. I understand the TBI has caused him to have mutilple
