Hi everyone! I'm in the early stages of ckd and right now I'm really trying to wrap my head around what I should be eating to be as nice to my kidneys as possible. For the last year or so I've been under the impression that the most important thing is to stay low in protein and to keep full eat more

PD Catheter
Hi, EGFR now dropped to 11, and PD catheter being fitted next week, followed by a Fistula soon after. Any advice on coping with Peritoneal Dialysis would be appreciated. Interested in whether I may feel 'healthier', or whether there is no real change.

Disclosing CKD
Hi everyone, I need some advice. I don’t know if I should disclose my medical condition to my employer. I was recently diagnosed with with CKD. I found out in June I had CKD. I only confided in one colleague. After my biopsy I found out I have Stage IV CKD, just last week. It is caused by IGA Nephropathy

Kidney Doctor
Can't seem to get an appointment any time soon and I'm worried. What is the kidney doctor "really" going to do? My GP is testing my blood weekly (which I think I might switch to monthly) Had an ultrasound...normal. My BP and sugar is good. Eating much better, exercising. I feel pretty good....a little

Peritoneal Dialysis
My husband and I are training to do PD. He had the permanent catheter implanted and it is working fine. Someone recommended that he should get a fistula in his arm as a backup. Is that usually done?

Low grade

that gave no symptoms. I spoke to no-one for 3 weeks while I worked it out in my head. I continued working up until last Friday and on Monday I had a partial nephrectomy, here in Kirkcaldy.

Alternative Therapy to Preserve Renal Transplants
I had a live-donor renal transplant 13 years ago, but I'm well aware that such transplants usually only last 15 years so I am looking for ways to preserve its function. I now take Renadyl, which contains microflora which have been shown in several scientific studies to reduce levels of uremic toxins

Do you know how sickle cell started?
I have read scientists believe that sickle cell started during slavery. This is why black/African Americans are born with the disease more than any other race. During slavery the owners of African people would withhold drinking water from the slaves as a form of hatred and of punishment. Without water

Antibiotics
Please be aware - be your own expert or use your clinical specialist service if you have any queries. I recently had a basal cell carcinoma removed and skin graft on my nose. I knew this was a possibility because of the immunosuppressant I was taking post transplant and had spoken about it’s possible

Sickle cell and menstruation
I know someone who is sickle cell anaemic, but her menstruation is not regular and when it does come it trickles and there's no use for a sanitary pad. The problem is she's worried that this means she isn't fertile since her menstruation isn't normal. But I read somewhere that the flow isn't much cos
