I need to find a way forward after damaging my lungs
Hi everyone, I joined this forum ages ago but felt too shy to post. I am 60 years old and was diagnosed with moderate COPD 5 years ago. I was in denial at first and continued smoking. I would get breathless on occasions but still managed to enjoy life. Two years ago I started to feel really breathless

Steroids through a nebuliser
Hey, At my last consultants apt a couple of weeks ago I was given steroids to have through my nebuliser twice a day (in addition to fostair, qvar and oral steroids) he said whilst I was there I may as well have the salbutamol and ipatropium at those times as well (instead of using them as needed).

Fast heartbeat
My daughter was playing with her albuterol inhaler and took 3 puffs. She's supposed to be taking two Puffs every 6 hours as needed. Now she has a fast heartbeat. Will it decrease on its own? What can I do to calm her down?

Having to go back to work with oxygen
Hello, I’m new here. After being given a salbutamol inhaler for 3 years for asthma, I was admitted to hospital in September with oxygen 85, and again 2 months later in November this year with the same reading. I’m now on oxygen 24/7. 1 litre at rest and 3 litre on movement, walking, stairs etc. My oxygen

Montelukast - good or bad?
Hi. I’m new here, looking in at the recommendation of the Asthma UK helpline nurse. I’ve had asthma for most of my 58 years, but in the past 12 months things have deteriorated quite substantially, with 8 or 9 ambulances, multiple chest infections, gallons of salbutamol and several bucketfuls of prednisolone

Fostair MART action plan
After 20yrs on Qvar for maintenance (50mcg twice daily) and salbutamol as a reliever, I had my first major asthma attack in September after which my maintenance inhaler was changed to Fostair 100/6. I also learned of the existence of asthma action plans at that time and have found the one I went home

Frustrated
Hi, I'm trying to deal with my copd, I seem to have bouts of anxiety and shortness of breath in late afternoons, even if I'm just sitting down. It comes on very quickly, I've checked my blood oxygen and is around 95%, don't know what's going on , I'm taking 10 mg prednisone daily plus salbutamol inhaler

Confused and annoyed
Hi, I have had Asthma since I was a child. I had no symptoms for a very long time, then 6 months ago following a bad time with hayfever I was put back onto Salbutamol inhaler and then onto a steriod inhaler (flutiform). I have increased my steriod inhaler over the last few months and am on the maximum

Using a lot of salbutamol during asthma attacks
Hi I was just wondering how much salbutamol you use to recover from an asthma attack. My daughter is just 7 years, she never coped well with using 2 puffs every 2 minutes, or 1 puff every minute. She now has 1 puff every 10 seconds for upto around 20-25 puffs. This is the only way to get her well quickly

How long for short burst prednisone to be fully effective?
Hi, I was prescribed a 5 day course of 40mg prednisone on Thursday (it's now Saturday). There was some effect within 24 hours - salbutamol gives me relief for a couple of hours, whereas before I felt symptomatic continuously but it was keeping up my PEF/oxygen levels (and my heart rate) for about an

Is this usual?
Hi everyone, as stated before l have mild copd, mild bronchiectasis and multiple lung nodules. I don't really have symptoms yet thankfully. However, sometimes when l exercise it feels like my lungs contract, (like a someone crumpling a tissue), sorry if that is a bad description. During these episodes

Problems after Phomonia and Pleurisy
Hi all I am a 61 woman who up until three years ago i would say was quite fit. I then contracted Phumonia and Pleurisy and my lung became 3/4 full of fluid that became septic due to a delayed diagnosis of several months. The fluid was removed over a few days in hospital. Over the following two years

COPD OR ASTHMA?
Hi I'm new to this so hope I'm posting in the right place! I've had a couple of really terrible chest infections with nasty coughs. GP did a lung function test and said I have the lungs of a 74 year old (I'm 50) as the results were 'borderline' I'm recording peak flow readings for 2 weeks and then

Blue Inhaler (salbutamol)
Hi everyone yesterday someone called PMR pete said an interesting comment that got me thinking. You can only have 8 puffs of salbutamol in 24 hour period. This is not true as I did explain but it just shows how we are all told very different information from our professionals. On the Asthma UK asthma
