Fostair MART action plan

After 20yrs on Qvar for maintenance (50mcg twice daily) and salbutamol as a reliever, I had my first major asthma attack in September after which my maintenance inhaler was changed to Fostair 100/6. I also learned of the existence of asthma action plans at that time and have found the one I went home with really useful.

However, as of Friday, I have been taken off salbutamol and Fostair is my maintenance and reliever now (MART regime). I have a card that my asthma nurse gave to me that says 2 puffs 2x daily for maintenance plus up to 4 single puffs as a reliever if needed - and was told I can change this after winter (which worsens my asthma every year) to 1x puff 2x daily and up to 6 reliever puffs.

I’m really missing the traffic light system from my old asthma action plan but despite lots of Googling, cannot find a Fostair one (only Symbicort).

Does anyone with a comparable dosage regime to me have a traffic light plan they’d be able to share, just to give me an idea of how to escalate and when?

I really don’t want a repeat of September, where I ended up in resus because I didn’t know that my symptoms were “go to my GP”/yellow stage, and therefore only sought help at the “actually having an asthma attack”/red stage…

Hi,

I'm on the same plan and I have asked for something to help to quantify it better. My asthma nurse has said that with MART plans it is based on how I feel, that it is symptom only. If I feel I'm struggling I need to immediately go and get medical help. The issue I also find with this plan is that when I tell doctors about this I get told they've never heard of Fostair being used like this and get told I must have my medication wrong. Having something written or even a flow chart would be very useful to get the help I need. I do have a useful app called Asthma MD which puts in place a rough action plan which is based on either peak flow or symptoms which does to a green, amber or red rough plan.

That's all the advice I have been supplied but if I find out anymore I will share it, and if anyone else on the MART plan could share for the rest of us would be really useful
