NAH: Are Your Digestive Issues Related To Your Thyroid? — SIBO and Hypothyroidism
Probiotics (supplements, fermented foods) *Research shows that
Rifaximin
coupled with fiber, and quality probiotics have a better outcome than
Rifaximin
alone. Note that one does NOT want to overkill bacteria, but rather eradicate some and then focus on rebalancing.

When to retest for SIBO
I've finished a round of
Rifaximin
(not convinced it helped) and have given my body a couple weeks to rest and then will do a few weeks of oil of oregano.

PI IBS - can't live like this
I tried
rifaximin
low dosage for 5 days. I usually have 2 bowel movements in the morning, first one is quite normal, second one is Unformed and sinks to the floor entirely. I have discomfort/pain most parts of the day.

Diet for hepatic Encephalopathy
I am taking
Rifaximin
and Lactulose and have not eaten lamb, beef or pork since. I do find it difficult to find proteins as I am also allergic to fish and have coeliac disease. I have chicken, cheese and eggs but have already lost a lot of muscle.

SIBO recognised at last
The consultant recommended to firstly repeat the laxative treatment ,(which only exasperated the problem as before,) but also suggested that it maybe SIBO and that a course of
Rifaximin
should be the next step. Eureka!...

Did Cortisol Ruin Your Gut?
Rifaximin
is the antibiotic which stays in the small intestine and does not become resistant but sold for $800. This may kill the bacteria but not go into the bloodstream and cause resistance. It doesn't work for everyone.

Lots of hypothyroid symptoms and don't know what to do
I also had very bad small intestinal bacterial overgrowth that was treated with
Rifaximin
antibiotics for a month and since then (5 months ago) I've been taking lots of probiotics and other things to help the gut recover.

IBS/SIBO/Rifaximin
I am seriously thinking of going on the antibiotic
rifaximin
that cures SIBO. Has anyone taken it? Wouldn't doing that and taking a probiotic clear up IBS? I used to be able to eat raw onions and garlic and peaches and not have any problems. So tired of being bloated and tired. Any advice? thanks!

Rifaximin and meat
I have been diagnosed as having mild hepatic encephalopathy and prescribed
Rifaximin
by my HEP. to clear toxins from my blood. I have read that I should only eat a little meat but can't determine what is a "little?" I am trying to eat more vegetable proteins as well as lots of fruit and veg.

Dad end stage liver disease
Because of his Dr asking questions he is now off
rifaximin
, still on lactulose. Since coming off
rifaximin
he is slowly going downhill. When I asked why he was taken off the
rifaximin
, my Dad said that his Dr had not ever prescribed it and it was very expensive.

What questions should I ask?
My husband is on the following medication - omeprazole,
rifaximin
, spironolactone, senna, thiamine, furosemide. He also drinks the ensure supplements. I guess I want/need to know how serious things are.

Hepatic Encephalitis
It has not been effective and his specialist has now given him a private prescription for the antibiotic
Rifaximin
. We took it to the chemist who have to order it in and it will cost in excess of £100 per week.

Sleep
Since my first episode of HE a few weeks ago, I was prescribed Lactulose and
Rifaximin
(as you would expect). Unfortunately I was still getting cramps and spent the nights jerking and awake, so my doctor prescribed 200mg of quinine for the cramps. Surprisingly I have slept well every night since.
