Starting Home Dialysis-Advice?
I received a kidney transplant in 2014 and now I need another one. I had never been on dialysis before but now I have to go on. I have elected to do dialysis at home. I'm nervous about every part of it from doing it correctly to the amount of space I will need to store materials to whether or not I will

Knee and joint pain after dialysis
I am on dialysis for 5 yrs now post my first transplant failed. I get knee pain which gets bad immediately after dialysis and slows down in 1-2 days. It never goes away completely. I have checked for RA but it is negative. Anybody experienced this? Any solution?

Newly Transplanted Kidney
After three years on the wait list, I got the call last week to come in and have a kidney transplanted from a deceased donor. My expectation that it would be another three years of waiting, so this was quite a pleasant surprise. My whole life changed in an instant. I was so happy and yet very scared

The Queen is Back in the Building
Hi Everyone, I'm back, I know it has been a minute. Thursday I had surgery to remove a dermoid cyst and an ovary, ended up just taking the cyst. They said the ovary looked fine. I went home the same day. I've been sore a few days and with certain movements, but I'll be back to work on Thursday. I missed

Working on Dialysis w/ Medicaid
Does anyone currently on dialysis work full or part time? I would like to know your experience. Also, if there is anyone working on dialysis who has Medicaid, I would like to know how you're able to work and keep your insurance. The insurance question is very important. I've recently graduated from university

New to dialysis; CKD caused by lithium
I started dialysis last August after my kidneys dropped into the Stage 5 range (functioning at less than 10% of normal). I'm 59. Because I'm single and was living by myself, I had few good options but to move into a long-term rehab facility in a nearby suburb that has an on-site hemodialysis clinic.

Can't stop arguing!
I've been training for dialysis for 6 months. It's been really long for reasons I don't want to get into. I've had many nurse preceptors and often get contradictory instructions. I often have no confidence in my ability to judge how important a given issue is. And I can't help it. EVERY time, I push

Kidney Transplant help
Hi everyone! Hope everyone is having a wonderful Sunday. I got a call from a gentleman who’s been trying to test as a living donor for me. Mayo Clinic has approved him. We are so excited, grateful, thankful, humbled and yet nervous at the same time. ****Can anyone tell me what they have experienced

How will my life change on PD?
I just found out that I'll be starting
peritoneal
dialysis
in 2 weeks. When I went to the initial orientation several months ago the RN suggested that walking should be my only exercise. I typically walk, run, hike, kayak, snowboard, and cross-country ski during the different seasons of the year.

Liver Disease Reversal
Seen in the Daily Mail today British designed dialysis machine can be used on liver patients and appears to reverse the disease doing away with the need for a transplant. It should be available in three years. There isn’t too much information such as what stage of the disease has it been successful

Trying to Maintain Money and Mental Health
My spouse received a kidney transplant in November 2022. He was on dialysis for 18 months and also developed diabetic retinopathy which requires 5 surgeries prior to and after his transplant. He wants to work and going on disability would be terrible for his mental health. We are having trouble financially

Low BP preventing transplantation
My husband had kidney cancer in each kidney 5 years apart roughly 20 years ago. He had partial nephrectomies on each kidney. In November 2022 he progressed to Stage 5 CKD and had to start dialysis. He has low BP and is medicated to keep it up. The transplant team reviewed his case and said they cannot

Dialysis also help with lung fluid removal??
Hello. My 86-year-old Father is the one on dialysis. He recently had pneumonia and evidently has fluid in 40-50% of his right lung. I have read that dialysis can help pull fluid from other body areas, such as the lungs, than is typically considered. Anyone had experience with this? Input appreciated

Hospital Acquired Delirium
My sister has Hospital Acquired Delirium and I don't know what to do. She will not eat. Her electrolytes, creatinine and BUN are all good on dialysis. They're afraid she'll rip a naso gastric tube out. Do I insist on starting intravenous nutrition? Can she get over the delirium? Her mind seems gone.

New patient feeling so sick.
I'm posting this for my (74 year old) sister. It will be long. I'm trying to be a good advocate for her. Sorry if I rant a bit. It's all new and scary. She entered the hospital 3+ weeks ago as an emergency having felt I'll and not eaten or drank much for 5 days. She was diagnosed with complete kidney
