Hospital Acquired Delirium

My sister has Hospital Acquired Delirium and I don't know what to do. She will not eat. Her electrolytes, creatinine and BUN are all good on dialysis. They're afraid she'll rip a naso gastric tube out. Do I insist on starting intravenous nutrition? Can she get over the delirium? Her mind seems gone. She's been in the hospital 3+ weeks.

Equest, I am sorry that your sister is suffering and you have to be witness to it. It is very distressing. Something similar happened to my father who was in extreme pain at the time. I found this link, which might be of value to you: healthline.com/health/hospi...

The best thing you can do is be your sister's advocate. Sometimes, even the advocate needs an advocate. Is there someone available within the hospital or system that can work with you to act on behalf of your sister's welfare? As the article states, the medical team will address underlying conditions first and the delirium will resolve in time. Blessings to you. It is a difficult situation.

I am really sorry to hear that. I have sympathy for both you and your sister. Hospital delirium is real. It’s a mental struggle to be stuck in that little room all day for weeks. It’s confusing and it’s always something they are checking or testing. She’s exhausted and so are you. She will get over it.
