Hello. My 86-year-old Father is the one on dialysis. He recently had pneumonia and evidently has fluid in 40-50% of his right lung. I have read that dialysis can help pull fluid from other body areas, such as the lungs, than is typically considered. Anyone had experience with this? Input appreciated and thanks, in advance.

Yes dialysis is used to treat fluid overload, especially when the cause is kidney failure.
Thoracentesis is a procedure to remove fluid or air from around the lungs. A needle is put through the chest wall into the pleural space. I had this done twice. It was very effective. My doctors put the needle in through the back.

Thank you so much for this reply. It's a consideration that my Dad's working with and will likely proceed with that procedure, though he's discouraged about having to do it more than once.
don’t assume that it will need to be done twice. I changed doctors the second time.
