Back from the wilderness of Alaska
This is what living with
melanoma
is often like for me. It's massive like Denali. It dominates the landscape. I can't always tell how close or far away it is. There is great diversity around and on the trip. Streams interrupt that serve different purposes.

What type of skin cancer is it?
We have just been told my daughter has skin cancer in 3 areas, on her shoulder, chest and back, it is non
melanoma
we think, how do they decide if it is basal cell or squamous cell.

Melanoma stage 3C
The only recent bad news I received was that Pregnancy can increase my chances of having a recurrence of
melanoma
, and apparently it was one of the few cancers that can be transported through the placenta to my baby.

Study identifies protein that causes ‘exhaustion’ of immune system cells
Cohen studied this phenomenon in human cells in a model of
melanoma
, successfully demonstrating a link between the expression of TOX in T cells and the generation of hypo-responsiveness, or diminished response to cancer.

So confused -
Huntsman in Salt Lake is the first stop on April 30th for 2nd ~ now the confusing part is a pathology report came back that states the probability: 90% sarcoma and 6%
melanoma
, still being treated for
melanoma
. Anyone have experience with clear cell sarcoma or have both come back?

Bit of a rant (sorry!)
(I lost my central vision due to having proton beam radiotherapy for an occular
melanoma
about 3/4 years ago. I'm 27 now and forever grateful for the brilliant care I received going through that.)

Would one of these be necessary for those of us who have
melanoma
and are being treated with immunotherapy which has a nearly 100 percent cure rate? Thanks! -Charlie

Melanoma Specialists DFW Texas area?
Does anyone know of/have a recommendation for a
melanoma
specialist in Dallas/Ft. Worth area? My regular oncologist in the town I’m near wants me to see a specialist regularly and I have no idea where to even start. I’ve googled, but I know nothing about anyone in the area.

Gut check
This Smithsonian article includes the
melanoma
presentation I heard about a week ago when attending the
Melanoma
Research Alliance conference. The presenter was out of the MD Anderson Cancer Center. I don't have his slide deck to share because he was presenting unpublished data.

Needing encouragement
Almost 5 years ago, I was diagnosed with a Stage 2A
Melanoma
. I had the surgery and have gone at least every 3 months for regular checks. In the last year I have had more than 40 moles cut off. Nearly 2/3 of them have been either cancer or atypical dysplastic Nevis.

What a ride..
Since my likelyhood of having
melanoma
issues at some point in life is ridiculously high (dad had stage 3 and mom stage 4 x2) I'm supposed to go every 6 months. I've already had biopsies done awhile back, but trying to stay on top of my own health as well as my furkids and my mom's.
