Gut check

This Smithsonian article includes the melanoma presentation I heard about a week ago when attending the Melanoma Research Alliance conference. The presenter was out of the MD Anderson Cancer Center. I don't have his slide deck to share because he was presenting unpublished data.

What is not in the article is an additional next step in moving from mice to man modeling: They have developed a kitchen where some melanoma patients will be eating ALL their food as they track their gut biome (via poop) to see if they can change the gut environment to make them more receptive to the immunotherapy to promote cure.

It was fascinating stuff….

Hi Missy, I have not been here in many months. We just read an article about this as well. Allyn was asked for a sample when he first started treatment. My 11 year old son found it hilarious that Dad was putting his poop in the mail!

Outstanding!

At the very end of the Smithsonial article there was link to Poop for the Cure . I believe that this research into the gut microbiome is potentially promising so so signed up to send samples . Yes a little gross but important . If they can increase the number of immunotherapy responders by changing the gut flora it would be a miracle . They even reimburse you for sending samples .
