Melanoma new stats
I learned this week at the
Melanoma
Research Alliance patient advocacy symposium that 30% of
melanoma
can be traced from normal mole that goes rogue and turns into
melanoma
. 70% show as “suddenly” appearing
melanoma
. This was our experience.

Caregiver for 50 yr old Mom with Metastatic Melanoma
Initially the doctors did not think it was
melanoma
or in fact malignant, but it was. Level V and 8 mm. After loosing my stepdad to Testicular cancer the year before and my father's recent diagnosis of
melanoma
3, we were in complete shock that we were yet again facing this ugly disease.

Carboplatin without a test
My Dad died of colon cancer, my Brother of
melanoma
. With a stage 4/G9 w/bone mets only in '16 and enjoying leuprolide/enzalutamide after docatexel (6 in '16), I'd think Carboplat would be a no-brainer. Avodart, as well. What hoops are there? Crabcrusher

Speaking of not cooperating, the
melanoma
is steaming ahead, too. At my last update I think I noted that there were new cutaneous spots showing up at the rate of about one per month. This has accellerated to about one a week.

Scientists advance creation of 'artificial lymph node' to fight cancer
In the next set of experiments, the scientists injected the T-cells engineered in either the soft hydrogels or the plastic culture dishes into mice implanted with
melanoma
, a lethal form of skin cancer.

New here and my heart is heavy!
My husband was diagnosed with desmoplastic
melanoma
in October. It is a very rare and aggressive form of
melanoma
. Went undiagnosed by his dermatologist for 6 months 😕. By the time the large lump on his neck was biopsied it had grown to a significant tumor.

Tapered down labs up
I got snow the day I was supposed to see dermatologist for my
melanoma
so he got pushed out till next month. He is three hours away over one of my mountains so won’t go with snow. I stopped looking up
melanoma
issues as it had me thinking I was dying.

My father's mother died maybe from Oa and dad dies from
melanoma
, so plenty cancer in my family on my fathers side of family. Mum lived to 98, old age just slowly crept up and she just feebled out, no major cancers. It seems family history is important.

Immunotherapy for prostate cancer continues to disappoint, but at least we are learning why
This is better than the "no response" when used alone, but worse than the response seen by either when used separately for
melanoma
(the recurrence-free survival (RFS) rate at 18 months with Opdivo was 66.4% and 52.7% for Yervoy (ipilimumab)).

My Experience With Melanoma
Oncologist sent it again and it was
melanoma
. She began giving me keytruda, and slight pain medication. A month later my hip became painful, and shortly after my knee became painful. The doctor ordered a PET scan.

Ovarian remission & aggressive recurrence within months?
And then, she went on an experimented drug usually used for
melanoma
called Mekinist and Tafinlar. Within two months, her breathing normalized, her scans were clear of tumors, and her CA 125 dropped from 1,150 to 35. It was truly a miracle. The doctor gave her remission status.
