Mucuna Pruriens
I would like to substitute mucuna pruriens for the Carbidopa levodopa. I have 500 mg capsules standardized to 20% L-dopa (not exactly sure what that means). How much levodopa is that? My C/L Rx is 10-100 mg, 4 times daily. How many 500mg mucuna capsules do I take as an equivalent? (my neurologist didn't

Do MDD have the time to look at the research that's going on in treating Parkinsons?Do they dismiss anything that's not peer reviewed. e.g My wife who's being treated for Parkinsons, has for the past year, suffered, leg/ calf cramp, wher she has to stop a few times and basically try and stretch it off

AbbVie announces EU availability of Parkinson's therapy
A cutting-edge skin patch, equipped with a miniature pump, administers a continuous 24-hour subcutaneous infusion of a therapy based on levodopa. My neurologist recommended this innovative approach as a more convenient alternative to managing our medication, eliminating the need for multiple pills throughout

Restless foot
Hi ugly sick old men, lately I've had an annoying problem with my right foot, and especially in bed at night I can't keep it still. Definitely a form of dyskinesia caused by Levodopa. Tips for solving the problem? Thank you .

Parkinson's medications and T3 interactions?
I've been hypothyroid for decades, in recent years self-dosing T3 (split dose - 50 mcg AM, 50 mcg afternoon, 12.5 mcg evening). Recently, I was formally diagnosed with Parkinson's disease (informally undiagnosed for years), and now my doctor put me on gradually increasing doses of a Levodopa/Carbidopa

trying to consolidate b6 facts
my neuro wants to watch my b6 levels and I am trying to glean what I can about b6 in this website. please correct me if I am wrong or add to this post as you see fit 1. There are 2 types of b6, pyroxidine and P5P 2. Too much pyroxidine can be toxic and may lead to neuropathy 3. Too much b6, either

Laurie Mischley on Using High DHA Fish Oil to Reduce Levodopa-Induced Dyskinesia (Updated)

Parkinson’s stategy: Embracing Hiking
Can long-distance trails be a remedy for PD? That is the lingering question after my previous personal experiences on the Vicentina trail in Portugal and the Camí de Ronda in Spain. In both cases, a dramatic start in the first week transformed into a remarkable improvement in my PD symptoms. Reetpetitio

It is 2:00 am and I am sitting here wide awake . My sleep cycle is all messed up, some nights I don't sleep at all but most nights I can get sleep around 4:00 am. I am a 71 year old male diagnosed with PSP last October. It all started January 2022 when I started having balance problems and difficulty

Weaning off high dose Pramipexole
I have had RLS since the 1970s. Some years ago I had augmentation. At the time I was taking the maximum recommended dose of Pramipexole, .75mg. My neurologist addressed it by a pramipexole vacation and prescribed carbidopa levodopa for 3 months. Seemed odd as it is a dopamine drug but it worked

Vitamin B6 Toxicity: Available Testing of B6 Plasma Level Does NOT Tell You What You Need to Know

Background
: Vitamin B6 participates as a coenzyme in over 100 different biochemical reactions. When it does so it is converted to the inactive form, pyridoxine. The body contains a recycling loop that restores the pyridoxine to the active form, P5P. Vitamin B2 is required for this process

Levodopa just for exercise?
Here's a question for you. Is anyone on or know of anyone that's on levodopa just for exercise and not on it the rest of the time? I'm on neupro which has helped live a regular daily life but still very dystonic and stiff for full on exercise and wondering if I could get a temporary boost to get through

Dietary Approaches to Improve Efficacy and Control Side Effects of Levodopa Therapy in Parkinson's Disease: A Systematic Review
I was researching supplement BCAA provided by my husband's functional medicine MD. I was surprised to find one of the ingredients was listed as a major contraindication with levodopa. L-Phenylalanine. Dug a little deeper and it related to protein and impact on levodopa. Found an interesting article

The fateful "off" moment.
When they arrive it's like hitting a wall. You become a non-person. It's as if all the symptoms , which until then had remained compressed inside you thanks to Levodopa, as if by magic they come out to shout all their strenght and turn you into a zombie. There is no gradualness. It is necessary to
