I was researching supplement BCAA provided by my husband's functional medicine MD. I was surprised to find one of the ingredients was listed as a major contraindication with levodopa. L-Phenylalanine. Dug a little deeper and it related to protein and impact on levodopa.
Found an interesting article on nutrition and PD too. I wonder if you could still take the Amino acids a few hours away from the C/L. Folate, B6 and B12 remain important.
Thanks. This is a really interesting paper that gathers together and summarizes useful dietary tips for anyone taking Levodopa. Every neurologist should be providing this information at every appointment!
In my experience with most doctors they tend to wait until you have symptoms or poor response, i.e. "my medicine doesn't work after lunch" rather than be proactive. Although his cardiologist always told him weight loss helps, and when he did lose 25lbs he did not need his BP meds!
