can a skin punch biopsy distinguish between sle and drug induced lupus
after 6 months of a terrible rash the dermatologist finally did a biopsy. the results he said was lupus, probably drug induced due to having
infliximab
infusion for crohn's (crohn's for 18 years). i have had these infusions for 8 years, but in researching lupus i have had sympoms on and off for 15 yrs

A break for 4 days
Just over two weeks ago my 10 year old daughter had her first IV
Infliximab
dose. It had been spoken about for 3 months but due to an ongoing flare increased symptoms & an MRI of intestines
Infliximab
was to be started. I had to go for a private walk, so my daughter couldn't see my worrie & tears.

How might I feel after Infliximab infusions ?
Im due to start
Infliximab
infusions soon as oral meds have not helped so far. I have had Behcets for 5yrs and symptoms have recently worsened. Does anyone know how I may feel after the infusions ?

feeling sick after infliximab
Had my fifth
infliximab
infusion this morning. They put it through in one hour instead of the normal two. However, this evening I am feeling REALLY nauseous, cold and incredibly tired. The tiredness I am used to but have never had this sicky feeling before. Anyone else experienced this?

I start my first infliximab in a couple of days. What are the most common side effects?
I go the gym 4 or 5 times a week and I'm worried about the effects of the
infliximab
and the methotrexate. Is there anyone who is currently taking these? What are the most comman side effects?

Latest part of my saga
To opt to get
infliximab
asap, or to delay it until I can have the scan and the blood test results. She gave me a steroid injection to help me through for a little while.

Stable health since 2006...avoiding flare ups...
In that year I went on to
Infliximab
anti-tnf treatment, and also stopped drinking alcohol. I changed my diet and have avoided meat (still eat fish), dairy products (still have cheese from time to time, and ice cream), fatty foods, take away food and microwave meals.

Long and frustrating road
I'm due
infliximab
in a weeks time, and that has had to be cancelled. I'm in quite a good state at the moment, but I wonder how long it will take to see the new consultant and what will come of that.

Epic battle over change in treatment
I am quite stable on methotrexate in tablet form (yuk) and
infliximab
infusions. Following my queries about a face rash in the sun, she told me she thought I had drug induced lupus and that I was probably in remission so was going to withdraw all my RA meds.

Time to tell my story
Moved to interferon then
infliximab
. During this time I had many addmissions for lengthy periods up to 3mths.

Getting a second opinion on drug induced lupus
So if I had been diagnosed with lupus I would have been excluded from a lot of the biologic treatments - and the one I'm on -
infliximab
- has transformed my life. Apparently the Dundee photobiology unit is about the only one in the UK. They are really thorough and incredibly helpful.

Am I likely to get funding for infliximab?
My consultants (rheumatology and respiratory) have suggested that the last resort would be
infliximab
but due to changes in procedure my PCT are not authorised to issue me the drug as it costs £10,000 a year, but instead they have to apply to the Behcets centre of excellence in London for funding etc

Has anyone had experience of drug induced lupus?
She says 'it is possible that the
infliximab
has led to a lupus-like syndrome' which is one of the reasons for taking me off it. I am not convinced - as you probably know. She said 'she has recently had her anti-DNA antibodies tested and these are positive showing a titre of 19.8. Her ANA is 1.160.

NRAS answer to my question about remission.
We looked for studies showing people coming off of
infliximab
and whether they successfully stayed in remission. We also found one study showing whether or not the
infliximab
was as successful a second time round if they had to go back onto it.
