Drug Allergies!
Since being diagnosed with Lupus I have developed soooo many allergies to drugs, it's now becoming a worry. I'm allergic to most types of antibiotic, different brands of some meds make me ill and even my anti rejection meds have caused allergies. My doctors tells me this is due to my Lupus - has anyone

I seem to have a bit of a problem so I'm turning to you guys to see what you think! I am T2 diabetic, taking Gliclazide 80mg 4 times a day and Lantus 80 units each night. I check my blood glucose levels twice a day. 2 hours after my evening meal my BM is usually 8-9. So I give my insulin and take

useful info on risk in familial hypercholesterolaemia.
This is a really helpful study to take a look at http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2563208/ It shows that the risks of familial hypercholesterolaemia differ HUGELY depending on which gene mutation is involved. FH isn't one condition, it's a collection of different gene mutations which are

Apparently "I'm one of those".... I don't believe in the "this is what you should eat" fairy .... Swedish meat balls!
You know... one of those weird mutant-types that looks at labels, avoids bread, pop, fluoride toothpaste, embraces sunshine to the point of daring to go outside without wearing sunscreen (shock horror!) thinks there's nothing wrong with butter, and likes liver & onions! Hubby always had bellyache, so

Cholesterol results still high after 12 months.
My cholesterol has gone from 7.8 to 7 with an HDL 1.4 and LDL 4.5. My cholesterol has always been 6 something for about 20 years and at the time the nurse said it was okay? I always eat a very healthy diet, having a sweet treat sometimes at the weekend. I eat plenty of fruit and veg. I refuse to

Is there any role of calories in diet for control or cure of diabetes.Of different diets suggested in this forum,no mention of calorie made.
In the management of DM three things are taken into consideration.Drug, diet and life style which includes physical work.Let us leave drug portion to individual treating physician. There in no two opinion on stress free life style with some physical work including regular walking etc. That leaves us with

Elevated cholesterol but no signs of inflammation?
I have closely followed all the debates about statins, and sugar vs. saturated fat, and am a believer that the pharmaceutical industry has vastly overplayed the benefits of statins. I have been on statins for the past eight years, but decided to give myself a break from them, and came off them for seven

Fed up of being messed about by the NHS
About a year ago I had a couple of nasty skin infections so I went to the GP for antibiotics and she ran a comprehensive set of tests. As it was before christmas, I didn't bother ringing up for the results but went back because I still had a boil and saw a trainee GP who told me my cholesterol was 8.2

Does anyone know if it is safe to scuba dive with enlarged spleen, portal hypertension and varices?
I have auto immune hepatitis which has led to cirrhosis, portal hypertension and varices (these are small and have never needed banding). I'm going to Egypt at the end of January (having finally found insurance!) and was wondering if anyone knows anything about scuba diving with an enlarged spleen and

Cholesterol still high, why?
Despite following all the rules about diet & exercise, my LDL levels are 4.5, & my HDL 2. I can`t understand why. I`m female, 61, non smoker with a family history of heart disease, & I`m scared stiff despite the practice nurse telling me that it`s no big deal. I tried statins, but they didn`t suit me

Spoke to soon!
I posted last week that my cholesterol was down to 4.5, well i had an appointment with the practice nurse yesterday, & she said that was just the LDL level. My overall cholesterol is just as high as it was before, & now I`m despairing of ever getting it back to normal. The nurse said that it`s nothing

Spreading the Word
I have just come back from a GP appointment to get some more cholestagel. He asked if I would mind speaking to a fifth year medical student and he left the room. What an opportunity to tell the next generation of doctors about statin side effects, risk versus benefits, the disparity of genetic testing

Does anybody know if it is alright to take Duloxetine at the same time as Levothroxine, my chemist says it is fine, but just thought, I would ask for any advice. I take them first thing in the morning, I can,t take the Duloxetine late in the day as it keeps me awake. I also take 10mg of Amitriptyline
