Statins and coffee
I've just a read a line in a piece supposedly in the Daily Express that says coffee might reduce the protective effects of statins. I don't drink lots of it - usually no more than 3 - 4 in a day plus a tea of ordinary instant coffee plus the occasional small ground coffee from a coffee shop, plus a normal

Missing Posts
My daily BHF email listed several user posts, including 2 from people concerned about how their catching a certain virus might affect them, given their heart conditions. Those posts 'removed' by BHF. It seems odd to me that 2.5 years into this certain virus, it is still considered a tab oo subject

I’ve just had my annual round of blood tests and apart from one result which came up as abnormal (and has done for the past 25 years), all the other results which I received online appeared OK. I was a little surprised when I received a text asking me to make a non-urgent face to face appointment to

Well it’s been a while since I posted and what a journey I’ve been on. I try to keep it brief. I year ago I was told I’m steroid dependent. I carry and emergency injection kit of cortisone. I hope I never have to use it. I had a follow up cardiology appointment on January 4th this year. I was told I

Scary Open Heart Surgery with difficult decisions
So 6 weeks ago ago I had what seemed like a low level flue. After 2 weeks of not improving I went to the GP, and after some investigation he realised that my heart murmer had got worse, so combined with my other symptoms, he arranged for me to go straight to Basingstoke Hospital for a Treponin blood

Numb feet.
I had heart surgery two years ago and the surgeon made a right mess of things. I've discovered that I was bleeding heavily throughout my operation, presumably because my artery wasn't clamped off properly. It resulted in me having a stroke which paralysed an arm and a leg. After two months in hospital

FINALLY
I am so thankful to those of you who wrote about the blanking period. I had never heard of that although I did realize that they would not consider my procedure of failure until three months and it could take 6 to 12 months to really have things kick in right. FINALLY I almost feel like me again. Of

update on the ecg I posted 2 weeks ago!
so was at cardiologist today for my 3 month post ablation follow up for AF. He’s thinking there is a good chance the AF has gone. I showed him the ecg traces from my Apple Watch which some of you had suggested bigeminy PVCs and that’s exactly what they are. He has me on a 24 hour monitor just now to

The Constitution of Medical Knowledge (Part 1 of 3)
Patients are often confused by seemingly conflicting findings of studies, or equally good doctors recommending different treatment plans. How are we to decide? Medical science is a process created by a “reality-based community” to help decide such questions. Science isn’t just hypothesis-testing with

Mitral valve replacement
Hi all, I’m due to have replacement surgery next week, and still somewhat undecided about whether to go biological or mechanical. I’m 55 and quite fit and active, with no outward symptoms. My surgeon has left the choice to me…my biggest stress is longevity. I’ve been told that if I opt for the biological

I had a Laminectomy due to Severe Spinal Stenosis which initially provided 4 months of relief. It then failed and deteriorated again. After that I’ve also had open heart surgery with a Triple Bypass and Mitral Valve Repair. After collapsing last year I’ve now been diagnosed with Heart Failure. Unfortunately

Well, It's always something new and fun
Hey All.... Well, I have PAF and had a echocardiogram the first time in some years (new cardiologist, etc). So...discovered I have mitral valve leakage (regurgitatuon). It's moderate at this point with a EF of 60%. Hope that some others may have experience with this "combo". What has your journey

Indigestion after Heart Attack
I had my heart attack last year. One stent. Now experiencing right chest pain sometimes in the evening. I often think I am having another heart attack but after going to casualty I realise it is indigestion. I have never suffered with this prior to the heart attack. The pain is bad. It can be difficult
