Disappointment at a Consultation
So I saw the consultant and basically nothing's changed. TC 5.0mmol/L, LDL 3.7 (target 4.2), HDL 1.0, Tri 0.3, all within 0.1 of last year IIRC. I've put on a little weight and waist and my CK (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Creatine_kinase) levels are up, but I was borderline-underweight before and those

Relapse-continued...
Hooray my shoulder was much better today, but unfortunately about 4 pm my ankle & foot got pretty painful & swelled up. I also lost my voice again last night & I am very hoarse today. I even had a telemarketer tell me to take some medicine & feel better. Other than these things, I feel great! It was

LDL 3.7 HDL 2.3 Others 0.7 Total 6.7!!! Dr says change diet. Diet changed 1 year ago due to dairy intolerance. Query How?
I have recently had my chloresterol test done. Figures are LDL 3.7 HDL 2.3 Others 0.7 Total 6.7!!! Now is this bad, good or indifferent. My Dr says I have to change my diet. As I also learned 1 year ago I was dairy intolerant and have changed my diet accordingly and therefore eat VERY healthily

The Test Approaches
I see the consultant in March and now it's February so I start thinking about the blood test more. For various reasons, it's going to be further ahead of the appointment than usual, so I'm now trying to make sure there are no significant gaps in my medication, diet or exercise for a week or two, to see

Cholesterol Conference, view from the West
I don't have much time this week (because of that day off work) and I hope there'll be a more complete write-up, but I'd like to post a few observations... and this will probably be my longest ever post anyway! Firstly, it was great to meet so many other patients, with a mixed bag of types of inherited

hi! anybody knows if taking corticosteroids (inhaled) can have an impact on our total cholesterol levels? my total cholesterol level is 185mg/dL. It's not considered high yet but i'm only 20 and i'm underweight. so i was wondering if high total cholesterol or increasing levels could be a side effect

Running for health
Today my
Cholesterol
test results came back. Total
Cholesterol
of 5.8,
HDL
of 1.5 with no drug control. I weigh 10lbs less than when I went to hospital but I never was overweight, but my waist has got 7" smaller whilst the muscles have bulked up.

Cholesterol
HI there, I have high cholesterol - 7.6 just now and has been 8.4 in the past - healthy lifestyle etc - told by Gp possibly genetic. Not on statins. OK - so here is my theory and both my GP and the endo didn't agree with my thoughts. If your thyroid is working very slowly and your metabolism is slow

Fats and diet
I came across an interesting post at the Harvard School of Public Health. I've thought for a while that eating margarine instead of butter was a bit strange due to amount of chemicals in margarine but all this was due to the advice from 'professionals' to cut your fat intake. This article seems to backpedal

Are home cholesterol monitors worth buying?
Does anybody have experience of using a cholesterol monitoring device at home? They are similar to the blood glucose monitors and apparently the newer ones can measure HDL, LDL and triglycerides.

Should I be taking Statins?
I'm a 65 year old female - don't smoke or drink and I'm not obese. However, my cholesterol level has always been on the high side and I am due for another check next week. My father was diagnosed with angina in his early fifties, had his first heart attack when he was 52 and died from heart disease

What is going on - risk of CVD
My BP before treatment was 175/95 and my
cholesterol
was 8.3 (
HDL
of 1.3) before treatment. BP now reduced to 155/90. I've been having a few problems with the statins and i'm 40 so GP sent me to lipid clinic to check if I had FH.

Lp(a) and IMT scanning
Latest appointment at the lipid clinic had me badgering my consultant about IMT scanning. I won't be getting one as there is no funding for it in Lothian and my consultant says it's of little benefit anyway. After this I managed to persuade him to have my Lp(a) levels checked. He wasn't keen as it's
