PCa-specific Survival after Radical Prostatectomy Is Improved by Metformin but not other Antidiabetic Drugs
New study from Finland below [1]. "Only postdiagnostic metformin use was associated with reduced risks of PCa death {53% reduction} and ADT initiation compared with nonusers." While Metformin users would be predominantly diabetic, it looks as though "nonusers" inxlude non-diabetics. "insulin and insulin

Vastly improved HbA1C through nutrition behaviour change
Hi All, HbA1c is a blood serum diagnostic test that indicates blood sugar response in the previous 3 months. as that is the approximate shelf life of a red blood cell. People with diabetes will know this very well as a measurement. Along with fasting blood glucose as a more immediate reading. Dr David

Long story ahead! It’s been a few weeks of ‘things’. In early November hubby complained his head was sore, which can mean all sorts since his stroke and not always being able to explain very well. Two days later he had a cluster of little blisters by his eye - shingles. A course of Aciclovar stopped

Taking Synthroid in AM on Empty Stomach Causes Pain
Currently on Synthroid 100 mcgs. I’ve had this problem for nearly two years. Every time I take this medication—empty stomach/mornings—-I immediately suffer Right Flank and Right Back pain. I’ve had multiple endoscopies, colonoscopies and nothing shows up. Also told that I have adequate stomach acid

Data driven fasting
https://optimisingnutrition.com/data-driven-fasting/ Hunger Training is really interesting, and might be useful for beginning fasters and those who haven't been able to make it work for them. It's basically using a blood glucose (fingerprick) meter to learn when when are really hungry and gradually

Cheese sauce with Guar Gum
Hi all I’m back from my travels and trying to wean myself off eating too much generally and also too much carbohydrate. Yesterday evening I cooked this cauliflower and broccoli cheese. I’ve tried a few low carb cheese sauce recipes, especially a few months ago when lots of people on the weight loss

Effects of Intermittent Fasting on the Circulating Levels and Circadian Rhythms of Hormones

Measuring fasting blood glucose on waking in the morning
I want to measure my fasting blood glucose and figured that taking a reading after getting (but before food or medication) is a good time. However I have read that various overnight effects can cause a "dawn phenomenon" in which blood glucose is artificially raised. How long should I wait after waking

A breakthrough-like effect of metformin reduces peripheral resistance to triiodothyronine in euthyroid, non-insulin-resistant, T2 diabetes
My main aim here is to identify to anyone interested that metformin appears to have an impact of T3 levels. Whether the hypotheses of the paper make any sense of that observation is, I fear, rather more questionable. (Though I accept is was very much acknowledged to be a pilot study.)
