Gene Therapy Shows Early Signs of Parkinson's Improvement
An investigative adenovirus-delivered gene therapy yielded encouraging improvement in symptoms of Parkinson's disease for patients whose condition was refractory to standard treatment. The therapy was well tolerated, and the effects were maintained through 36 months, preliminary results indicate https

Interesting Research on RA Severity, possible treatment
Hi All! Saw this on Science Daily, 7/26/18, and thought it to be of interest to the RA community here. Researchers at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai may have uncovered a way of predicting RA severity through identifying a mutation on the HIP1 gene. Therapy may one day involve removing

Post Whipple op pain
Hi, I had a Whipple procedure done just over two weeks ago, as I have MEN 1, which predisposes me to neuro endocrine tumours on certain organs, Andreas being one of them. Anyway, Op went smoothly and surgeon happy. Post op I hit a rough patch with sickness and nausea and balancing pain relief in hospital

Voyager's Parkinson's Gene Therapy Is Likely To Fail
Initial phase 1 Parkinson's gene therapy results were similar to placebo in other Parkinson's surgeries. Sanofi reviewed the Parkinson's gene therapy clinical data and walked away. Voyager needs to raises money; it will most likely be an equity offering before phase 1b and phase 1 posterior trajectory

Trials to treatments: gene therapy

Post Whipples
I have been diagnosed with B12 deficiency two and a half years after my Whipples procedure. Still to have my first injection. I have tingling up my face and lips and a sore tongue. My tummy feels so tight. Don’t know if that’s to do with all the internal work they did when they removed my duodenum and

Curing Patients Is Bad for Business. Milton Packer describes the end result of profit-dominated drug development. (We're f*cked.)
"The potential to deliver 'one shot cures' is one of the most attractive aspects of gene therapy, genetically-engineered cell therapy and gene editing. However, such treatments offer a very different outlook with regard to recurring revenue versus chronic therapies.... While this proposition carries

SOMETHING TO WATCH: Gene therapy for PWP... fascinating though it may take some time.
How I understand it: Gene therapy approaches have involved the use of viruses for delivering new DNA. These genetically modified viruses have had all the disease causing component removed, the virus is just an efficient biological delivery system, an "effective courier" ... using virus as a way to get

Hip pain
I have been recently been diagnosed with severe osteoarthritis in my right hip. The stabbing pain has moved down my right thigh and knee and below that as well. When I put weight on my right leg the sharp pain makes it difficult to stand and walk. I had a CT and full body bone scan because I feared that
