How I understand it: Gene therapy approaches have involved the use of viruses for delivering new DNA. These genetically modified viruses have had all the disease causing component removed, the virus is just an efficient biological delivery system, an "effective courier" ... using virus as a way to get to the brain and infect specific groups of neurons with "medicine". Could we be close to a non-invasive and highly targeted approach to slow or stop (or even reverse) PD?

There are firms doing gene therapy to remedy genetic defects. For inherited forms of Parkinson's this may make sense. For acquired forms of parkinson's we would need to know which genes to fix.
