Yay! turns out i'm not crazy!
Had my lung function test today, I was a little worried that while i'm on pred, and so many other meds and was actually feeling pretty good (chest clear as you would expect for lungs which know they're going to see a doctor) i might not show much reversibility at all. so i was pretty reluctant and part

Peak Flow Readings
I was diagnosed 13 months ago with Emphysema. It was only up till last week that I was placed under the watchful eye of a COPD nurse at my GPs practice. Because it was a 12 monthly review she performed all the relevent tests to see how my condition had been. What she did ask me was did I have a Peak

Peak flow rising and symptoms increasing/more noticeable?
Any thoughts? After nearly 4 weeks on 40mg pred and several weeks where I struggled to blow a peak flow above 400, even my lowest of three peak flows is consistently above 400. This has been going on for about a week. But strangely as my peak flow has improved, I've also started having more easily recognizable

What strong painkillers can I take?
I was going to phone the asthma nurse - but the helpline isn't open until tomorrow. I have fairly mild asthma, mostly well controlled. I've developed a cold overnight and my peak flow is down today. I'm not coughing which is my usual symptom but my chest feels a little tight. I'm using Salbutamol regularly

strange findings!
I was taking my peak flow yesterday and just wondering why I always get higher at the gp, than I get at home. First I though it was just down to the pf meter, but then I thought, hang in the cardboard tube at the gp, is wider than the plastic mouthpiece I have on mine. So the scientist in me thought,

Jogging
Hi I have been asthmatic since I was born and always had problems when I run as I get weasy quite easily. I spoke to a nurse when I went to the asthma clinic and I asked her about jogging as this is something I would love to do but always been put off by the fact that when I run fast I get breathless

Peak flow - are you meant to use muscles?!
This may be a bit stupid, but... EDIT yes it is a really stupid question which I should have guessed the answer to, but will leave it up for fellow blondes ;) Had norovirus yesterday (ugh, not recommended, but glad it didn't last too long). As a result of throwing up way too many times, my chest muscles

Long Term Prednisone Trade-offs
At the end of last week my doctor proposed that I stay on 40mg of pred for another few weeks, possibly up until I see the pulmonologist at the end of February. We discussed this further today. He's not exactly excited about the idea and neither am I, but we both agreed that it was a question of trade-offs

Menopause or thyroid-that is the question!
I am 56, hypothyroid for 1 year taking 50mcg Levothyroxine reduced from 75mcg as started with panic attacks and fast heart rate. Having spoken to my GP, she said levels were showing normal after blood result-however they were at the top end of the scale. I decided to reduce to 50mcg and immediately
