Add on drugs that are usually prescribed by a consultant part 1 (LAMAs, add-on inhalers, theo)
Hi everyone - it’s been a while! Here is the next (probably long awaited 😅) infomercial! Here are some of the drugs commonly prescribed by a local consultant. That being said, GPs can (and do) prescribe a lot of them, but I’d suggest if you’re on one of them and are not under a hospital consultant (

Docusate v macrogol?
Please can anyone explain to me the difference between Docusate and macrogol? I have obstructive defecation syndrome (anismus) and have been taking macrogol (Movicol) for some time but this was making the motions too loose to push out effectively. My consultant has now switched me to Docusate as he

Stop and/or contain diarrhea!
Hi, All -- Just joined. We just returned from an agonizing (for me) wedding weekend. I suffered from diarrhea Friday-today and took Imodium every day -- sometimes several times. My bouts seem to be more unpredictable. I'm trying everything I know of (except pharmaceuticals.) We have a two-week trip

SGLT2 new treatment for CDK; anyone on them?
I was listen to a Dr. in a podcast regarding new treatment for CDK. Even though these sodium inhibitors are used for heart patience and diabetics, they are showing promising results for non-diabetics with CKD and proteinuria. "Despite optimal treatment with renin-angiotensin-aldosterone-system (RAAS

Newb question
Hi there, I'm new to this forum, and to the possibility of high blood pressure. Does anyone know the relationship between serum sodium and salt as a cause of high blood pressure? If sodium is measured in the normal range would that rule out salt as the cause of high blood pressure? I'm guessing it may

Supplement to restore joint health
I’ve been buying this for my dog for quite a while for his joints and the webpage says it is for humans too so I thought I would try it. https://wedeliver.nz/products/efac I have been taking it at 3 per day for a while and I swear it is helping. So if you have sore achy body it might be worth a try

Hospitals in dire straits.
On Saturday evening my wife's arm and chest started paining and it felt like someone was tightening a band around her chest. Her normally low BP shot up to 210/110 and she had a headache. This to me is a possible heart attack so I phoned 111. They in turn sent an ambulance. We live 4 miles from the

Superior Limbic Keratoconjunctivitis
Went to see my Consultant Ophthalmologist today (great chap who sorted my floaters, which were the size of icebergs, a couple of years ago and said that I would need cataracts sorted sooner or later so elected to do them at the same time as the floaters and all on the NHS – perfect) as I have some discomfort

It's My Runniversary! 😁😁😁
Yes I believe today marked 1 year since I started c25k! I feel I've come a long way 😁 from struggling around the local allotments too embarrassed to be seen, not able to run for a minute, to the joy of completing W5R3 🤣 followed by graduation and a sub 30 5k 😁 Within 6 months of starting I'd progressed

Landmark study shows simple salt swap could prevent millions of deaths each year
Replacing table salt with a reduced-sodium, added-potassium ‘salt substitute’ significantly reduces rates of stroke, heart attack and death, according to the results of one of the largest dietary intervention studies ever conducted. Presented at a ‘hotline session’ at the European Society of Cardiology

Sodium Butyrate: Conflicting Studies
So I read one study from 2021 that said Sodium Butyrate was good for PD, lowered inflammation, and improved symptoms and then read another from 2020 that said Sodium Butyrate increases inflammation and makes PD symptoms worse.
