Measuring fasting blood glucose on waking in the morning
I want to measure my fasting blood glucose and figured that taking a reading after getting (but before food or medication) is a good time. However I have read that various overnight effects can cause a "dawn phenomenon" in which blood glucose is artificially raised. How long should I wait after waking

Type 1 diabetes Phase 1 trial of the dietary supplement HAMSAB (high-amylose maize resistant starch modified with acetate and butyrate)
Yes, I know it's targeting T1D, but I'm wondering if they would need to change very much if they were to run a similar trial for PD? "Changes in gut microbiota composition, function, and immune profile following six weeks of HAMSAB supplementation were associated with increased SCFAs in stools and plasma

Leave No Stone: Noni Juice (Morinda citrifolia)
Somebody on FB had a link to a Noni Juice Cures PD page (they were selling Noni Juice) so I figured I would look for some science behind it. I will probably add this to my diet. Morinda citrifolia mitigates rotenone-induced striatal neuronal loss in male Sprague-Dawley rats by preventing mitochondrial

Does Prednisolone affect Cholesterol levels and blood pressure??
Hi. Back in February (pre PMR) my cholesterol was HDL - 1.5 and LDL 3.8. Six months later (four months after commencing Pred) my levels are now HDL - 2.4 and LDL - 5.0!! My levels have never moved by much over the years and this was something of a shock particularly as it has happened so quickly.

Time to Cut Glycine from my Stack? (this would include GlyNAC)
So I was perusing the Rhyothemis blog http://rhyobrain.blogspot.com and stumbled across something concerning "Hcy neurological harm depends on glycine levels" https://rhyobrain.blogspot.com/2021/05/homocysteine-cbs-autoimmunity-very.html which led me to this: The Controversial Role of Homocysteine in

Methotrexate? Is it too soon to go onto this drug
Hi everyone, I was diagnosed with PMR in August 2020 and have found this forum invaluable over the past 13 months. This is my first post as so far I have always found the answer to my questions somewhere on the site. However on this occasion I would really appreciate some advice. I’ve just updated

Help! Trepidation setting in…
Having not run since I was 11 years old (I remember that day well….) I have decided that I need to get off of my bottom and take my health more seriously. Having largely ignored insulin dependent diabetes since my diagnosis, due to the fact that I am invincible, having slowly and blatantly increased

HbA1C numbers as we age?
I have been looking for information on HbA1C as we age, I managed to find this information. There are many video clips coming out of Tamil Nadu in India in Tamil language. From 7 to 7.5 %, 53 to 58 mmol/mol Senior citizen should maintain. Over 80 years of age 8%, 64 mmol/mol. In UK, NHS has blood

Definition of ‘processed foods’ - what’s yours?
The term ‘processed food’ is often used on this forum in the context of stuff to avoid. A little while ago I had an argument with my daughter who has been living with us off and on and as a professional carer cares about our health! She won’t eat Lurpak Slightly Salted because she rates it as ‘margarine

Apitherapy for Parkinson’s Disease: A Focus on the Effects of Propolis and Royal Jelly - 2020
I switched from Google to DuckDuckGo and found this surprising article. https://www.hindawi.com/journals/omcl/2020/1727142/ 5. Evidence from Preclinical Studies The effects of both propolis and its flavonoids and RJ and its lipids on PD were examined both in vivo and in vitro. The findings indicate that

Bumetanide in combination with Furosemide?
My husband was on Furosemide with Spironlactone but swelling in legs not improving, on a phone call the Cardiologist changed the prescription to Bumetanide. That didn’t improve it, GP then reduced the Bumetanide and we thought he said to add Spironlactone back in, but no prescription came so we checked
