Pain flare prophylaxis--Dr. Sartor high testosterone therapy--
Greetings. I am aware that Dr. Sartor, sometimes, does give high testosterone therapy for men with MCRPC. If a patient has bone mets, but no pain symptoms, is it possible to use Dexamethasone as pain flare prophylaxis? I am aware that men with bone mets often get Dexamethasone to possibly avoid having

Next step: Jevtana or Xofigo?
Hi all, Asking on my behalf of my 71 year old dad who was dx'ed in April 2018 with numerous bone mets all over, no activity in soft tissue. He's been on Zoladex from the start, did Docetaxal between July and October 2018, Zytiga+prednisone from August 2019 til now, and Xgeva since May 2020 as well as

Hesitation before switching from Abiraterone to some other protocol.
I have been discussing and considering that Abiraterone might be failing. It seems that a steady level in the 4 range for the previous 11 months has moved to the 6 range. July lab results arrived yesterday. I switched from prednisone to dexamethasone in the last week of June. Dexamethasone is more powerful

Super clumsy
Is it only me that finds the doors, particularly handles and things leap out and bruise. I am on dexamethasone every three days so prone to bruises anyway but my clumsiness is really irritating. I suspect it’s because I have paraesthesia in my hands and feet. On Sunday, it’s always the weekend isn’t

Hip replacement so far so good
Dear friends I thought I’d update you on my hip surgery as we’d had a discussion recently about the impact on PMR it might or might not have. I’m only in my second week post op but I’ve been amazed at the outcome and progress so far. I had a local (spinal block) anaesthetic with sedation and don’t remember

Introduction - Brain Abscess
Hi, Just joined the community after my wife found it useful while I was going through treatment for a brain abscess. Covid-19 & Dexamethasone
Article in the NY Times today [1]. Seems that if dexy is given before the body goes into mutual destruction mode - i.e. the cytokine storm - it can increase mortality risk. Makes perfect sense. We want to stimulate the immune system until the last moment & dampen it thereafter. (This was discussed

Less than 2 hours ago I heard a radio news report about one of the latest clinical trials looking at treatments for CoViD19. It has been found that Dexamethasone - a well-established, widely available, cheap anti-inflammatory [yes!!!] drug - can significantly reduce the risk of death in the most seriously

Burning Skin
I have been doing so well on NDT since February 2019 TSH - 0.46 (0.3 - 4.5) FT4 - 16.4 (12 - 22) FT3 - 5.7 (3.1 - 6.8) but on 28 April I was taken into hospital with quick onset glaucoma. I was given a drip to bring down the pressure that evening and had to go back the following morning for laser

Addison's Patients Are at High Risk of Respiratory Infections and Males with Low Testosterone Levels More Likely to Die From Coronavirus.
I was led down a rabbit hole on Google when researching if taking steroids for Addison's was considered immunosuppressant while completing an NIH "All of Us Research Program" survey on Covid-19. I initially thought that it pertained to those patients with Addison's caused by an autoimmune disorder.

Need ideas post Xtandi and Zytiga
We had our first telehealth FaceTime call with the local MO yesterday to discuss my husband’s John’s recent bloodwork. He has been on Zytiga with dexamethasone and we knew his PSA was rising. It jumped 5 points in 6 weeks to 15.16 so the doc said to stop Zytiga and dexa and pretty much accept that

Replacing prednisolone with dexamethasone to help Zytiga lower PSA
Hi Everybody out there, could somebody point me to any study where prednisolone was replaced with dexamethasone (while taking Zytiga. Will the switch be likely to make any difference to help lower PSA? Thank you all.
