Announced on the BBC today - Dexamethasone, a cheap steroid cuts death rate by a third for patients on ventilator.

Dexamethasone cuts Covid-19 death rate
Graham,
Seems prudent to mute the immune system when patients are heading into overdrive.
-Patrick
We need well-regulated, strong immune system in order to prevent coronavirus infection
BUT, once we have symptoms of covid19 and become sick...then, we need to do the opposite...that is to temper down immune system by meds like steroids.
A weakened immune system invites severe coronavirus infection..so steroids like prednisolone or dexamethasone are potentially harmful.
Once infection has taken hold in our body and our immune system reacts fiercely causing CYTOKINE STORM...we need to take big dose of steroids to suppress immune system.
Please do not start taking steroids to prevent coronavirus infection....as steroids will make you more at risk of getting covid19.
"The primary symptoms of a cytokine storm are high fever, swelling and redness, extreme fatigue and nausea."

I have also seen a racing heart included as a bad sign.
In the hospital setting, patients at risk are likely to be on ventilators. But those sitting it out at home with no lung issues can be at risk for a fatal heart attack. so be wary of any of the above symptons since death can be sudden.
(There have been numerous PCa posts on the importance of eliminating subclinical inflammation. Those with elevated inflammation at baseline do poorly in a cytokine storm.)

Safer and easier way to keep inflammation down in human body is to eat plant based, anti inflammatory foods such as Ginger, Garlic, Onions ,turmeric and CBD oil etc. They are likely to reduce severity of cytokine storm..as narrated by pjoshea above. Keep C reactive protein below 1.0
Dexamethasone is a type of cortisone. What happens at covid-19 is that you get an inflammation that causes the lung bladders to become a little thick and thus unable to transport the oxygen. If you can then reduce the inflammation with cortison, the positive effect is that you get better oxygenation.
When I had chemo, I was given dexamethasone pills, but didn't need to use all I was given
I recall it was given at time of chemo infusion. So when I cycled over to hospital the get shot up with chemo, they gave me some dexa as well, and that had effect of making me a lot faster on bike on way home, and I overtook all these young ppl cycling home from work
Oh what fun I had getting chemo.
I used to dance with the drip trolley, tell feeble jokes to nurses, because the chemo ward was full of very sad ppl who seemed unable to smile. But I understand, death ain't popular.
Prince Charles got C19, and recovered. I'm same age as His Roy Al Highness, but I'd bet a UK pound I have better lungs than Charly, who afaik, does not ride a bike to go to his hard work at palaces dotted around UK
I would not want to rely on dexa for fix for C19, but uncertain, kinda like reliance on doctors for a fix with Pca, extremely uncertain.
Anyway, I'll cycle over to hospital soon to see my onco and get the news on latest PsMa scan. I've already been referred to the doc at Theranostics Australia for maybe more Lu177.
I have tried to get ZOOM installed onto my laptop to talk to doc at TA, and its supposed to be "easier than Skype to instal" but as usual that's just BS and I must go to an IT experty person to do it for me after I wasted 2 hours without getting the zoom icon to appear on desktop to start a video call easily with someone else. I need to do this because TA doc is over 1,000km away.
Its a nice clear cold sunny morning here with little wind, not bad for a ride to see a doc, then continue on to have a coffee so ride is over 60km, and consider all I was told by the doctor. He's on my side, and would like me to live some more.
