Good morning, some of you may remember that I was going to do my first finger prick blood test with MMH but I bottled it! I managed to get the lovely nurse at my GP surgery to fill my 2 tubes when she was doing my routine thyroid tests in readiness for my Endo appointment next week. She filled an empty

Atorvastatin and raised blood sugar
I was on simvastatin 40mg for many years and 2 years ago my Dr changed my medication to 20mg atorvastatin. My blood sugar has increased to the point of needing lifestyle changes. Has anyone noticed the link between statins and diabetes or is it just me?

Blood test results - Help Please!
Hi. I recently posted on here because I feel my doctor doesn't really take an interest in my hpothyroidism. And so I've recently taken some private bloods to check my doses are OK. I finally have all my tests back now. Can you help me interpret them please? I'm on 50mg of Levothyroxene. TSH level

What's in a word?
Health care in the UK has seen a change in the last couple of years. Patients with one or more long term conditions are now asked about their experiences and how they would like to be treated. Carers are also consulted. Well done to all the organisations and Universities that go that extra mile, you

HDL cholesterol confusion
Hi - I'm overall very fit and healthy and do a lot of exercise (12 hours a week). I eat very healthily and limit alcohol to 14 units a week. I've just been told my HDL is very high even though my LDL is normal range. I've been advised to take "lifestyle changes" to lower my HDL. I'm really confused

VLDL results - confusing
For the last five years or so, I’ve had slightly high cholesterol , e.g. 5.7 mmol/l total, 3.4 LDL but good 1.9 HDL, 0.9 triglycerides and total/HDL ratio of 3. I get tested once a year or so. I’m not overweight and am active, etc., but I do want to bring that LDL down and made a few changes such as

High triglycerides and blood test loss and going private
Hey all I've been referred by my GP to Leeds teaching hospital for my high triglycerides. They can't see what my hdl v ldl is at moment cos of this. Issue is I've done the blood tests at my GP and at the hospital and they keep going missing. So I've gone private through insurance but then I'm worried

T3 level, potassium
I had a test at the end of December, but only TSH which was 3.1 (range here is 0.27-4.20). GP agreed to test again last week, adding T3, T4 and TPO. These latest results are TSH 3.23, T4 15.5 (range 12-22), T3 flagged at 3.8 as range is 3.9 - 6.70 but declared normal, no action. TPO is 7 (should be less

Any tips on raising HDL please? Thanks
Hi Vegan for almost 30 years now, age 52. Latest bloods. Total cholesterol 2.6 (<5) LDL 1.6 (<4) HDL 0.9 (>1.0) Triglycerides 0.6 (<1.8) Non HDL 2.25 Cholesterol/HDL ratio 3.0 (<5) So, all markers are ok except for HDL. I’ve read that vegans tend to have low HDL. Any tips to raise this please

Private cholesterol testing - not DIY
Hello all, I used to keep blood tests abroad, but I travel less now. The NHS will give tests every few years, but I’d like to keep an eye on my LDL figures. I have tried at home kits with limited success. I just wondered about options for clinics who do this? I’m sort of OK to pay up to £80 but any
