I gained 100 pounds on antipsychotic medications. I was never overweight before I started taking them. I'm happy to say that now I've lost 80 pounds of that! It has taken me two years but I'm maintaining it. I think that being off the antipsychotics has been a big contributor to my being able to do this. I also had to start a good exercise program, and change my diet quite a bit. I have low thyroid too, so it hasn't been fast. I'm doing the Weight Watchers program to help monitor my food intake. I lost about ten pounds before going off the meds, and then discontinued the meds. I lost 50 more pounds that year, and 20 last year. I'd still like to lose about ten more.
Just wanted to encourage you all, that if you've gained weight from the meds, you can lose it again.

This is incredible! What an amazing weight loss. I can't believe you managed to lose weight whilst on the medication too and with an underactive Thyroid - that makes the weight loss even more incredible. I couldn't unfortunately lose any weight whilst on it but I did stop gaining thankfully once I reached a weight gain of 2.5st. I found the new me hard to accept but you've just got to push forward haven't you? 😞.
I've nearly lost a stone now whilst I was taking lower does of 1.25mg and then 0.625mg. I'm hoping to lose the rest now I've stopped taking it as of four days ago but above all I just hope and pray I stay well, that's my ultimate goal.
Huge congratulations on the weight loss, you've done absolutely amazing. I have no doubt you'll be able to lose the small amount more than you wish to lose. Just look how far you've come.
that’s very encouraging to hear! Thank you for sharing. I gained 50 lbs in the 1 year I was taking them. I’ve never been overweight in my life before either. I’m now off of them and trying to better my diet and exercise regiment. Hopefully the pounds will shed off.
Believe it or not, my will power is not as great as you might think. I don’t keep sweets and junk food in the house, because I WILL eat it. We don’t eat fast food or order takeaway. Not bringing it home removes it from being a temptation. I do indulge when we eat out, but we don’t do that very often. I’ve learned to eat low fat protein sources and lots of fruits and veggies. My husband loves peanut butter and that’s the one thing I really have to restrict.
I found an exercise program that is fun, and that has been a game changer. My husband often walks with me, and we also have a dog, so those things really help. My mood is the best it has ever been.
