Struggling
Hi all! I haven't posted here in a while. I've had quite a bit going on lately. I'm going to try to be on here more, though. It's hard dealing with all of this myself right now. Recently, my husband was diagnosed with a rare cancer. I have a chronic rare disease and now I'm questioning a lot of things

Off Topic - Social Workers
After last year's unexpected BKA (below knee
amputation
) I obviously needed help to move forward. However before my rehab was complete the social worker had me shipped to a care home under the looming CovID crisis. I am still there ging ever more stir crazy.

Pain, Pain and More Pain
After both my bypass and
amputation
I could see improvement if not on a daily basis definitely as the weeks passed. However 2021 has been much more of a struggle. In the background some will know I am having stump and housing issues.

Some relief from RLS by sleeping on my stomach, but still testing
To be brutally honest, there was a period in my 30’s when the RLS was so bad I could hardly function at work because of the sleep deprivation and I truly considered

Health Scare!!!
I had a smoke 5 minutes before I went in to Hospital for my Op & haven't had one since, when I want one I look at my feet and remember what my Surgeon said & that was "I was so close to having a 'Lower Limb
Amputation
'" It's not easy, it's early days & I'm still sore nearly 5 weeks later but Smoke Free

Can you experience brain issues 33 years after VM?
I had viral meningitis 33 years ago which resulted in the
amputation
of my left leg, below the knee. My question is, can people start having issues with their brain years later as a result of the VM years before?

Phantom Pain
I had never heard of phantom pain before my BKA (below knee
amputation
). But boy I know about it now! Talking to fellow amputees at the Limb Fitting Centre and Amputee Physio I seem to be suffering particularly badly compared to many.

More tests being booked for hubby
I think from memory the specialist told him that worse case scenario could be severe pain gangrene and maybe
amputation
? Hubby thinks his drinking has absolutely nothing to do with his feet though

Weight Bearing on Prothesis
Some of you will know I had a BKA (below knee
amputation
) at the end of July. I picked up my prosthetic leg in mid-October but immediately hit problems with the wound reopening and blistering. After seven weeks without physio I started weekly sessions last week.

Inspirational Amputee Book
I have been told I am coping well with my
amputation
but am keen to see other people's experiences. So far I have read two books by people who have lost a leg. The problem is that they were both young (teenager and early twenties) and a lot fitter than me.

Off Topic - Amputees
I recently had a BKA
amputation
on the left due to complications as a result of (diabetes related?) PAD (peripheral arterial disease). Currently I am getting a few issues that would be outside the scope of this forum.

Off Topic - Amputees
Whilst I have posted about my recent
amputation
due to complications as a result of PAD (peripheral arterial disease) here I am now getting issues that are outside the scope of a heart and circulation forum. Healthunlocked do not seem to have a forum for amputees and those supporting them.
