Acute kidney failure
As if heart failure was not enough my non existent GP sent me a very brief letter informing me that I now have acute kidney failure which may be “age related” ! Oh yea, nothing to do with the furosemide and Spirolactone I am on then. No request to see me to discuss as they have a Fort Knox policy and

Kicked off List
Has anyone on here been kicked off the transplant list for not going to dialysis all the time??? I don't always make it due to different reasons like not feeling well, nauseous, diarrhea etc. Who wants to go sit in a chair for 4 hours when you don't feel good enough to get out of bed? My one kidney

Use of adjustable bed with cirrhosis and COPD
Hi, I've recently been diagnosed with alcohol related cirrhosis. Had a long conversation with my consultant last week and apparently I'm at stage A which is quite good to hear. I have a gastroscopy booked for 26th to check for varices and will be having a bone scan, vitamin check and tests to check

SWELLING OF THE ANKLE
I am on Furosemide (40mg per day) which did sort out my water retention amd ankle swelling. However, (Ihate that word) for the past four months have again been suffering from ankle swelling which appears to be evident only to how many hours I am on my feet and hw much hard work I do in that period and

Water retention on holiday in Lanzarote
After manoeuvring my way through Travel Insurance/Special Assistance/hiring wheelchair as I have AF and heart failure. On the 2nd day I seized up completely with Sciatica and had to be wheeled to the nearest clinic to be left after 3 injections and £400 bill which was worth it Will try and claim some

Waiting for blood and ultrasound results, suspected cirrhosis and portal hypertension
Had bloods taken February and Ultrasound March and am awaiting results. I gave up alcohol in February which I haven't found too difficult. The sonographer told me quite a bit, apparently pancreas, kidneys, spleen and gall bladder seem to be okay. There is some scarring on my liver but he said he'd seen

I can't find the latest post. Dad2Cue was the last poster with an interesting medical article on this. It got me thinking and I prepared this response. i am posting this for others reaction. Interesting read D2C. It confirms my own observations of what has happened to me. If I may summarize in plain

Bumetanide side effects
I was changed from 40mg Furosemide to 1mg Bumetanide in Feb last year and had increasing lightheadedness feeling walking on bubble wrap pressure and noises in both ears and neck and head stiff. I asked for tablet be changed or halved and was told I had benign vertigo to keep taking tablets they won’t

How often are meds reviewed by GP or Cardiologist.
I have been on the same medication since Feb 2020, never the doses or my case reviewed with the exception of an appointment with a Cardiologist in July 2020. Dealing with my GP surgery and getting any response from them is hard work, however and before contacting them I wanted to check with others how

Leave it to me, I got stuck in my compression socks today LOL!!!
What a ridiculous day. Thought maybe some of you could laugh at this too. As you know we do get edema with CKD. My PCP had me start wearing compression socks to help with edema in ankles and feet. I was wearing a pair of my holiday compression socks with candy canes today. I've worn them and washed

My partner's story
Hello to everyone, I've been a silent member of this group for a few weeks and I have found your posts really helpful. I have decided that now is the time to share with you the story so far with my partner and his diagnosis of alcohol related liver disease. He's 43 years old and he's been a daily drinker

Pharmacological significance of extra-oral taste receptors
Every so often, I see a paper which seems odd enough to be interesting despite having no obvious application, at least not in the foreseeable future! [i]Eur J Pharmacol. 2021 Sep 5;174480. doi: 10.1016/j.ejphar.2021.174480. Online ahead of print.
