Survival and QOL With Abiraterone + Prednisone vs Docetaxel in Metastatic Hormone-Sensitive Prostate Cancer
Another recent comparison. Nothing earth shattering: https://www.practiceupdate.com/C/73457/56?elsca1=emc_enews_topic-alert "CONCLUSION Our findings suggest that AA + P + ADT is at least as effective as DOC + ADT in reducing the risk of death in men with mHSPC and better at preventing disease progression

My story - 16 years with metastatic prostate cancer - I’ve had just about everything
In a similar vein, I have peripheral neuropathy problems in my feet post the last round of chemo; persistently low potassium and magnesium levels post
Abiraterone
– despite regular supplementation; and high blood pressure post
Abiraterone
– I did take medication for this, and am probably going to have

After Abiraterone
My journey with
Abiraterone
looks like it has come to an end. Last week I was informed after 10 months on Aberaterone, that it is not as effective as hoped and that I would most likely benefit from a change in treatment.

BRCA ... Rubraca?
"The FDA has said that phase 2 data suggest the drug could represent a new therapy option for men whose cancer has progressed despite chemotherapy, and treatment with androgen receptor therapy such as Pfizer/Astellas’ Xtandi (enzalutamide), or Johnson & Johnson’s Zytiga (

)." https://pharmaphorum.com

Cialis (Tadalafil) while on Zytiga?
His URO and his MO both agree that it won't cause any problems but I'm concerned about the testosterone levels, this med is still supposed to increase it and I'm not sure about how it would react alongside
Abiraterone

Docetaxel vs Abiraterone?
I am just beginning treatment. On Lupron so far and soon to begin the next level. Docetaxel or Abirateroneb - Any thoughts about which one to do? Study results are similar but treatment duration and side effects are very different.

ALP "bouncing" after starting Abiraterone (Zytiga)
I've experienced a bouncing upward of my Alkaline Phosphatase level after starting Zytiga, 5 weeks ago. My ALP jumped up to 111, just outside the normal upper limit. Apparently this is fairly common and along with a >50% reduction in PSA appear to be positive prognostic indicators. Here's an article

My message: Advanced MPCa patients should be seeing a leading genitourinary oncologist!
But I went anyway, since a clinical trial is underway involving a drug (Zytiga;
abiraterone
) I was scheduled to start in November anyway, plus a new drug they are testing. I found this clinical trial via clinicaltrials.gov.

Abiraterone or Docetaxel: Which Is Optimal for Hormone-Sensitive High-Risk Prostate Cancer?
Today at my Med Onc visit I was given the choice of adding either
Abiraterone
or Doxetaxel to my just initiated androgen-deprivation therapy. They said at this point there is no real definitive studies as to which is superior and either would be an fine.

Looking for advice
Some of the questions I can think of is - should I be having
Abiraterone
as well? Should I have a PET Scan? Should I be having drugs to help protect my bones? Is Chemo, ADT and steroids good enough treatment for me at the moment?

Generic Zytiga anytime soon?
I have been approved for three years of Zytiga (
abiraterone
) starting in October, thanks to the LATTITUDE study results. For those of us with decent group health insurance all but about $200/mo. of the $8500/mo. cost of Zytiga is covered. Perhaps soon there will be a generic version?
