As last year, I thought Iโ€™d post a fun kind of Advent Workout Plan and see if anyone on the Strengths and Flexibility Forum would like to join me.

Rather than a daily exercise, Iโ€™ll post a weekly list of workouts, as a sort of advents wreath filled with workout goodies, arriving each Sunday as we count down the weeks to Christmas.

So this is an invitation for anyone interested to chose a few, even if just one or two, and do them during the week. Let us know how it went and feel free to post your own seasonal favourites!

So cโ€™mon, feel invited to join in on the fun and post how you are doing by reply.

My choices for this select list this year will include some new found workout interests on the forum and some workouts that have been posted by others. Also, spot the elf, as each week will have at least one video workout with a Christmas theme or a tree or festive decoration in the background!

Lovely Adriene has this relaxing morning practice that some of us have adapted to do first thing am in bed! Thanks to Oldfloss for digging out this one for me!

Some time ago we had a little, 5-day exploration of Tai Chi, and this little 10 minute workout is a lovely, relaxing reminder of or intro into that practice, just right for gaining a calmness at the start to the hectic Xmas shopping season.

TaiFlow (10min) Qigong exercises to manage Stress and Anxiety

We couldnโ€™t have a selection of workouts without a step aerobics being featured, as through the championing of this movement practice by one of our own brilliant workout buddies, ToothPickJafah we have a whole step-craze happening here on S&F. So enjoy this 24 min Christmassy step practice and get on all of those new steps that have been arriving in our homes in the past weeks.

Quick word of caution: this one is short but fast, at 140 BPM. So if you need to, slow down that video to 0.75 of playback speed.

NOTE: itโ€™s a recorded live streamed session, so cannot be embedded, but the link below should get you there.

CDorner Fitness (24 min) Fast Basic Step Aerobics Only 20 minutes of pure cardio FUN!!

The next one is a throwback to the 5Rhythm challenge that we did this year. So hope those who enjoyed it then, delight in this 15min music video you can dance to. And if you are not familiar with what 5Rhythm dance is, head to our post that started it all on S&F at healthunlocked.com/strength...

And of course for all of the Pilates fans, I also found a lovely little 20min workout by a young London based fitness instructor. It is the first time Iโ€™ve come across Lidia Mera, and her Pilates Fitness videos seemed to only have started in the last 11 months. But the music is great, the videos are professionally done, but it still comes across as an immensely personable, and just having browsed through this video, itโ€™s definitely one Iโ€™ll be trying in this week! Enjoy.

What a great idea CBDB! I am an 'S and Flexphobe' but now I'm trying to increase my running distance, I made myself start Yoga with Adrienne's December Calender on Friday. What a shame I didn't see this first! Now I don't know what to do - haven't time for both Advent workouts, Adrienne and running!! But thanks for this

Weโ€™ll be here, and feel free to pop in, let us know which YWA youโ€™re doing and see what everyone else is doing! YWA is great! I had a streak of almost 2 years every day, before time got too scarce as my interests also moved on. But I miss that regularity and it was brilliant for my running and flexibility needs.

Iโ€™m also expecting many of us will join you in January, as traditionally YWA does a daily, totally new practice (โ€œYoga journeyโ€) each January.

I did my 15 minute strength exercises this morning and am doing a little mini calendar now with walk/run and yoga/pilates/strength every day. I'm going to aim easy at 10 minutes of the latter and anything more will be a bonus.

And thanks to this post I'm going to add tai-chi into the latter rotation; I tried it many, many years ago for a couple of terms at a college in Richmond - absolutely loved it, but somehow never got back to it.

Brilliant. That sounds great! Is it your own calendar or are you following a set plan?

Gthants profile image
GthantsGraduate in reply to CBDB

Just mine. I have just written exactly as I have said above: walk or run; stretch/yoga/pilates/strength onto my iPhone calendar for every day. I'm not in favour of having pop up reminders or anything set in stone as I find I get stressed, miss days, get busy, and beat myself up over supposed failings.

Easier to keep it nice and simple. If I don't run, I need to walk every day. I want to do a minimum of ten minutes exercise sin addition every day; if that turns to 2 x 10, or a half hour yoga, then great, but 10 minutes is achievable.

That sounds like a great plan! Powerful Simplicity! (I wonder if I sometimes overcomplicate things, so this is a really intriguing and compelling plan!)

Whoop!! Thanks for this!

Iโ€™ll defo be doing the step workout you linked ๐Ÿ‘ and Iโ€™m doing Yoga with Timโ€™s December calendar ๐Ÿค— will also give the Tai Chi a go, always wanted to try that so now is my chance!!

Iโ€™ve had a full weekends rest so Iโ€™m looking forward to getting back to it tomorrowโ€ฆbatteries are fully recharged!

Also!! Iโ€™m going to start doing jump rope again this week!! ๐Ÿ‘

Jump rope! Woah!!! A bit too impact-high for me but hope you enjoy it!

ToothPickJafah profile image
ToothPickJafah30D Graduate in reply to CBDB

I havenโ€™t done it for 2 years but I loved it when I was doing it! Iโ€™ve got a speed rope and beaded rope which is slightly heavierโ€ฆtheyโ€™ve both been hanging on living room door begging to be used again! So, itโ€™s time!!

CBDB profile image
CBDBAdministratorGraduate Gold in reply to ToothPickJafah

We have had a few workout buddies who did rope skipping, and it will be excellent for running. So good on you! (I have a feeling, though, it might not be as popular on the forums as step aerobics ๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿคฃ)

๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿ˜‚ oh defo!! Step aerobics is WAY more fun than jump rope!! ๐Ÿ˜‰๐Ÿ˜ but I once did 120 jumps in a row so Iโ€™m aiming to beat that record!
