How’s everyone doing in the heat? Just checking in with everyone, so feel free to let us know how it’s going.
I’ve had a busy few weeks, hosting some lovely guests and my indoor rowing having moved from one part of the house to the other. The rower now stands in our living room workout corner, because we had guests staying with us for 6 weeks in the room that the rower used to be in. Our lovely guests have now left but, we’re thinking of keeping the rower in the living room. It’s actually cooler due to shaded windows, and I can use the big TV to display the virtual world of Watopia, through which I am rowing my running avatar. We also have a real guest bedroom again, even with a bed … but no rower!
I’m also still keeping busy with some online challenges for my trusty indoor rower, currently doing an indoor rowing challenge called “Dog Days of Concept2”, where, in August, you row each week 10k more than the last.
I think I’ll get easily to end of week 3 aiming at 30k, managing a long 10k row on the weekends and various evening 30-min rows of around 5k each. But I’ll struggle to achieve 40k. It just sounds so daunting.
And that got me thinking of the value of these online challenges.
Last year around this time, I was very much into running challenges. There was my first 10k race at the Festival of running in April healthunlocked.com/bridgeto... , and then there was the Edinburgh Festival of Running healthunlocked.com/bridgeto... and look at those black running tights! I’m so much more colourful now! And, of course, there was the world record (most runners doing a remote 10k) a few of us did: healthunlocked.com/bridgeto...
And of course, we had our COGH ultra relay, running through 11 time zones, 16 countries, and 25 000km! And there was a wooden medal to evidence that, see healthunlocked.com/bridgeto...
So virtual challenges with this community and those on my own really kept my running going last year, but there wasn’t as much bling to be gotten in Cross-Training, rowing and Yoga challenges. The online indoor rowing challenges are very welcome, although there is almost never any bling involved.
And I might be a material girl, as I've come to like a bit of bling!
So have you found some online challenges to keep you going? Any tips and pointers? What keeps you motivated when the going gets tough?
Would love to hear if anyone is still doing some virtual plans, online sessions or challenges.
