Hi all, it's been awhile since I've been on here, so I will refresh all of you with my journey with cancer. I had Clear Cell Ovarian Cancer stage 3C, negative Brca. I did 6 rounds chemo, & also had a total hysterectomy. In fact today is my 1 year anniversary of that surgery, 9/8/ 22. I was then put on Avastin. I've been on Avastin since January 2022, so I am currently in my 9th month of taking this drug.
I have had my fits & bouts with Avastin. Unfortunately it has really wrecked havoc with my Blood Pressure, & me Spilling Protein in my Urine. First, I was never a person with High Blood Pressure, & I fear if I continue to use Avastin it is going to damage to my Kidneys. Which I also never had a problem with. I believe that I am going to have to have a conversation with my Oncologist about getting off of Avastin & going on another form of Immunotherapy. Maybe Lynparza, or Zejula.
Question...Have any of you wonderful ladies ever had to tell your Doctor that you can't tolerate Avastin any longer & to place you on another Drug for Immunotherapy?

yes I did! They took me off Avastin my BP was 190/89 horrible! After 2 rounds of chemo… It was with my frontline chemo drugs, combination. So sorry you’re having problems. Feel free to contact me.
I was on Avastin along with carbol/ Taxol from the beginning of my treatment in 2018. It was as part if a Trial ,the OCN8 trial. I was on it then fir 9 mth post chemoand found it so difficult. I had infusions every three weeks. I feet awful for at least four five days after each time. Eventually I said no to any more and stopped. I:finished in Nov 2019 and had no treatment then I had my first recurrence in Dec 2020. I wasnt offered any other treatments when I stopped Avastin. After the recurrence I'm now on Niraparib.
I hope that you get sorted , and I fully understand your worries and reason for thinking of stopping Avastin. I would be the same.
Thank you Ann! Avastin would be okay, if it were not for the HBP, & it affecting your Kidneys in a negative way. My feeling is that I already have 1 serious ailment (Cancer), so I don't want to sacrifice my Kidney's for Cancer. I will be talking to my Oncologist next week, & I hope she can find another form of treatment for me. God Bless Ann.
Thank you Nanfoster for your helpful reply. It's really awful dealing with HBP, when you have never had it in your life, & Kidney issues. I'm just kinda scared that my Kidneys have been damaged, due to Avastin, & now I have to deal with this, on top of Cancer. God Bless!
yes there are side affects for sure! Sadly. I would discontinue it. I have neuropathy in my hands and feet from one of my chemos , Taxol that I struggle with daily but I do not have cancer right now, I’m grateful. Please keep me posted.
yes, I was put on Avastin after my first round of treatment. It caused high blood pressure and proteinuria. I took 2 doses and was removed. Now I am on my 4th round of treatment and am on 1/2 dose. It is more tolerable.
1 have been on Avastin since March 22. My kidneys were already damaged due to a complication of my ileostomy. It surprises me that they don't monitor my urine for protein as suggested by the literature.
My BP has remained high for me throughout treatment at about 140/85.
The biggest issue for me has been the aches and pains.
