hair care advice

Hello, I’m currently on Verzenio and Faslodex, it’s been about a year and a half. I was taking Ibrance and Letrozole for a year and a half as well. In between those meds, my hair thinned and damaged quite badly. It is dry and feels brittle. Which hair care products do you guys use to combat these unattractive side effects? I’m using Olaplex which does a good job but my hair still feels dry. I know these hair problems should be the last thing I should be worried about… but I have been so depressed lately and this holiday season isn’t quite helping, either… I would love to know what hair care products are helping you. ( I know PURA D'OR was mentioned and I bought them. ) Just wanted to feel and look a little bit better when I’m out. I also wanted to thank you all ladies helped me with my wig questions. I have purchased a good looking wig and exploring other options like scarves and turbans. You are all wonderful! Have a great Thanksgiving!

You might find that other meds (such as Kisqali and letrozole) are not only more effective, but also less hard on your hair than your current combo.

Slow on the replies. I guess because of the holiday. I am sure you will get some great advice. My hair got frazzled when I was on prednisone for an autoimmune disease that I had before mbc (and may have triggered mbc, or let it thrive). I had to cut it short. That really worked for me. It looks much better short, and less of dry, brittle hair is a good thing. It grows in faster.

I have only had thinning on AI's and other meds. I have taken to wearing hats all the time. Fedoras work for me. I have a couple of berets. I got some thickening shampoo -- I don't know if it would help with dry, brittle, but my hair looks thick and healthy. Viviscal-Pro.

I gave the advice to cut hair short to someone else on this site. She did and hated it, and had to grow it back. Personally, I would rather have short healthy hair peeking out from my hat than long unhealthy hair. Also, it works with my face. So it does depend.

hello, thank you for replying! Yes, I cut my hair short to a bob length, which I like. It does help a lot.

I have a bob as well. Have been experimenting as to what length feels and looks best. Currently about an inch below the jaw line works for me. I find shorter hair makes it feel thinner.

I’m on the same combination Verzenio and Faslodex. I’ve been getting highlights to cover some gray as I’m 75. My hair is dry too and I’m sure coloring doesn’t help. I use bio silk daily. I wet my hair a wee bit then a bit of bio silk no bigger than a dime then I use a curling brush and it looks not too bad. My hairdresser says biosilk is greasy but then she’s not taking Verzenio and I only use a smidgeon. Happy Thanksgiving Chris

I am so sick of this as well. I've always had beautiful thick hair. I am currently using a hair , growth shampoo that seems to help. When I get my hair cut they've using a gloss treatment. This wasn't helping enough so I have purchased a hair masque to use a few times a week. It is helping. Agree that it seems like a petty thing given what others are dealing with , but I totally understand that you want to feel like yourself even if others can't even tell.

And I've also been experimenting with different types of mouse and other products for thin hair when I style it.

Hello, thank you for replying. It’s been emotional roller coaster for me being a terminally ill and these unsightly changes in my appearance…. Hope we will find something that works for us! Happy Thanksgiving 💕

Hair matters! At least to some of us. Outward sign of what is happening inside. I do not apologize for caring about hair, with everything else I have to cope with.

Hello, I've been on Ibrance for 3.5 years and I hear your hair issues! I'm pretty hopeless with wigs so this is my bag of tricks to hide balding/thinning areas :

1) Hair fibre (e.g. Toppik, Boldify, Thick Fibre, etc). I've only used Toppik (wool fibres) and another generic brand (cotton fibres) and I prefer cotton fibres.

2) Hair powder/hair cushion (e.g. RiRe Quick Hair Cushion). These work like eyeshadow but for your hair/scalp. They come in a compact (like face powder). These are godsent; they're so quick and easy to apply and inexpensive compared to hair fibres. You can even use eyeshadow on thinning areas although it doesn't adhere as well.

3) Velcro hair clips/magic hair stickers. For days I don't want to use hair product or have poofier hair days where thinning looks less conspicuous, I use these. Velcro hair clips are not the prettiest so I glue lace/nicer looking fabric on them to make them look more presentable. Hair clips are unfortunately too heavy for my sparse hair.

4) For colder weather, I wear beanies, baseball and newsboy caps.

5) Hair tonic (e.g. Kaminomoto Super Strength Hair Serum Gold, Hobe Labs Energizer Hair Follicle Stimulator). I do see baby hairs growing but not in the spots where I need them growing! Still I think they help reduce hair fall.

6) Biotin, Volumizing and Hair Thinning Shampoos. I've tried many of these with no success. A hairdresser told me any normal shampoo that suits your hair will be fine. The trick is to clean the scalp well and hair will fall out less.

Hope this helps. Wishing you and everyone here good health always. 💕
