Hair regrowth

Ok so I complained when I knew I was going to lose my hair from Taxol chemotherapy.

I went off that in June and my hair has been growing back. I am on Gemzar chemotherapy now and hair is still growing.

But😥here is the question. Did anyone's hair come in horrible. I mean I had beautiful thick wavy hair before losing it. NOW it is thick but so curly and frizzy it is terrible. Still about two inches long but I will not go without a wig. And I still wear cap to bed. It is so ugly I will not show my husband. It came in all gray, I did dye it but will it ever get better?

Please someone

Tell

Me it will.

I know I should not be complaining in light of what we are going through with the virus but thought I would ask.

How long does it take to fully grow in. Maybe I will lose it again I am on my forth month of Gemzar.

It's good that I love my wigs.

Guess I am getting stir crazy being in the house so long.

Oh well if anyone knows the answer thank.

Barbara

Hi,

When I was 37 I was on taxol adriamycin and a other whopper chemo. My hair came back curly gray and frizzy ..it will change .The first hair growth the follicles are all damaged the more it grows out it turns to new growth...I am now 59 and it's been 23 years and I was diagnosed with stage 4 metastatic cancer. Cells showed up in the outer lining of lung and on Ibrance now..This really sucks for woman because everything feminine gets taken away with breast cancer. We can do this!! Stay home and stay as healthy as we can be..god blesd

Thank you for the hope of decent hair.

I guess I have too much time on my hands to even think of my hair😂.

Yes let's all stay safe at this time

I sympathize. I was "cured" for 20 years and then Stage 4. They should not tell us that we are cured but rather there is no evidence of cancer. If that was done, people might be more vigilant and dismiss symptoms as being of something else instead of cancer.

I lost my hair 4 years ago when I had intravenous chemo for my primary breast cancer. The hair that came back was very different to the hair I lost. I’d always had fine mousey hair, it came back thick, curly and granite grey. The thickness has stayed but the curl has gone, it took about 18 months for the curl to disappear. I waited 6 months before I coloured it and it took the colour perfectly. Everyone now comments on how much better my hair looks than it did before.

I am feeling better by the minute. Thanks for the info.

I've just had 3 cycles of a trial drug called cabazitaxel, it's licensed for prostate cancer. I was told I'd lose my hair but I haven't, though the chemo was stopped because I had progression but I kept my hair! Seriously though, hopefully they will find effective drugs for us that will cure without the horrible side effects. Losing your hair feels like another attack from a disease that attacks our self identity from the first day. Losing your hair is not a minor side effect.

My experience is the same as others. I kept my hair short for a while and after I colored it, the texture seemed to return to the way it was before chemo. I have medium length thick hair now and no one would ever know it had fallen out/changed texture from chemo. My eyebrows are only half as full as they were before, though, but that could be from normal aging.

Thank you. I guess I need to wait until it is longer.

My hair came back the first time I was taxol and it was grey and wavy. My hair has always been straight. The longer it got the straighter it got and I just hade my stylist color it. It was back to my hair. I am on taxol again and it’s already started growing back. It’s not pretty. I feel like I have pubic hair on my head. Lol. It will get better. Hang in there.

Hello.....would you please share with me (us) about your tax experience. Looks like I maybe headed in the same direction. Afinitor and exemestane don't appear to be working accordingly to a recent scan last Friday. How long have you been on taxol? Do you know how long people with mbc stay on it? Thank you for sharing! Faith

I have been on taxol since December. It hasn’t been all that bad but I really feel like it has given me major chemo brain. I can’t seem to remember things and feel pretty stupid sometimes. I think we can stay on it a long time. I have an MRI on Monday and that will determine where we go from here. I’m just so tired of dealing with cancer and all the appts I have. I would love to find something that will work that I can take from home.

Thank you for sharing this. I will not be going on taxol. I will be going on xeloda which is an oral chemo. I just finished with afinitor and exemestane which I was on for almost a year. Waiting for this new drug to arrive.. ..

I was also on Xeloda and for me other than the hand and feet issues it was easy to take. Good luck. Oh and my MRI showed a decrease in the size of my tumors so my doctor wants me to continue with the Taxol. I am happy about the results and will just have to deal with the hair issue.

When I lost my hair after my first battle with cancer it came back in very curly. I really enjoyed it as I could wash and just pic it out. It took about a year for it to finally return to its original, straight as a stick, style. So don't worry you will get there!

Best,

Audrey

My first time with bc had chemo. When my hair grew back it came in white, frizzy and curly. As it grew, I kept having the frizz trimmed and finally it looked healthy and thick again and I colored it.

Since Ibrance, my hair has thinned so much I got a wig.

Oh well!

I’m so glad you asked this question. I was on taxotere and my hair fell out. It use to be medium length and fairly thick. My last strong chemo treatment was back last July. It’s now a dull granite color and frizzy. It’s really thin on the back top of my head like an old man. It’s pretty straight back there but curly around my ears about 3 inches long. It’s horrible. I wear my wigs, scarf, or hat. I’m glad to hear it eventually returns to normal. I told my daughter I was coloring it this weekend. I can’t take this ugly dull grey.

Thanks to everyone for sharing your experience. It’s so helpful and encouraging.

❤️Stacy
