Just wondering about my thinning hair. I’m on Ibrance and Anastrozole ( Arimidex). I would like to get the gray out and do some highlights but thinking that might be too much for my hair. Does anyone get their hair done or should I avoid it? It would make me feel better but worry I might lose more hair. Also any good shampoos for thinning hair while on these drugs?

Thinning hair
I do with no problems. Go for it!
Thanks I need a cheerleader. I just need to feel better about myself.
KitMios,
I get my color done, but not as often as I should; every 3-4 months, but I don’t have much gray at all. I have always had thin hair and it does not seem any more thin on Ibrance. I just started taking a collagen protein peptide blend that my stylist recommended would help my thin hair and also my nails.
Best, Colleen
I had very thick hair. It thinned a lot but my new hair dresser couldn’t tell, she thought it was still thick. I colored and highlighted during the whole time I was on Ibrance. Now I’m waiting for my hair to grow back so I can do it again! I wasn’t supposed to lose my hair on my new treatment, but I did. It’s now very short, curly, and gray.
Hi KitMios My specialist metastatic bc nurse has said that I shouldn’t colour my thinning hair whilst on Palbociclib & Anastrozole as it will make it even thinner and weaker🥲 and the final colour will be different than usual. I started my treatment in March, coloured my hair in April, but by June it had changed from a rich chestnut brown to a weird orangey brown with grey roots coming through, which I am still trying to grow out. At that time I didn’t even think to ask her about colouring it. The texture is also very dry and frizzy. I am trying some products from Waterman’s - approved by my nurse/ which seem to tame it a bit and it feels fuller, hoping after regular use it will make a noticeable difference. I can’t find a hairdresser willing to colour it as they are not covered by insurance if anything goes wrong apparently.
Hi! I have been on the same treatment as u since March of this year. I colored it the first 2-3 months then stopped when it was getting thin. I still have a little hair and wanted to highlight it, but my scalp is itchy and my hair follicles hurt so I stopped. I just wear head covers or wigs now. My boyfriend loves the wig and it’s growing on me cause all I have to do is put it on and go out the door. I don’t have to worry about wind, rain or humidity, it just stays the same and nobody knows the difference. Believe it or not, I have a more positive attitude when wearing my wig. And the head covers r so comfortable. I was thinking of just getting rid of my hair all together. I would rather have no or little hair, if it means I can stay healthy and meds r working. Hugs to u
I color my thinning hair. I am on Ibrance and Faslodex shots. Better to look at dark thinning hair rather than gray thinning hair!
I continue to colour and I am on the same meds as you. I currently wear a wig waiting for it to grow a bit more. I had shaved it to see if it would come in thicker because it was really thinning.
I have continued to have blonde (foil) highlights every few months during nearly four years of taking Ibrance , and have my fine hair cut into a very short bob to make it look fuller. The texture is drier so I make sure I condition it often and use a smoothing balm . Some ladies use Moroccan oil( light). If my scalp is itchy I apply Aloe Vera gel . I have a Dyson supersonic hairdryer which dries/styles my hair in five minutes , so minimising heat exposure . Some ladies have wigs ...whatever works for you! Wish you well on Ibrance and welcome on here ! x
I have had a lot of hair thinning on Ibrance and Letrozole. I still get my hair colored although not as often as I did before because it does not grow as quickly. Getting my hair colored makes me feel younger and improves my self-esteem.
Yes that’s what I want to do. I won’t go often. Just need to feel better and between pandemic and cancer diagnosis last summer I really need to get this hair cut. Thank you.
You are welcome. In addition to a cut and color making me feel better, I love my stylist. She is sweet and kind and I love chatting with her. Plus, she gives me a wonderful scalp massage when she is shampooing me. That's the best part of going!
I am sure my awesome hairdresser will be gentle. She even told me she would come to my house. But I am going to make an appointment to go in. I’ll get it layered again and is loved my highlights back. Continue on your road to beat this. Taking life day by day ❤️
That sounds wonderful. I'm sure it will look lovely. Also, she may have ideas about a shampoo and conditioner that would be good to use to protect your hair and perhaps strengthen it. I know some of the women take biotin supplements but my doctor advised against it as it can change some of the blood test results. I also try to take life day by day as none of us knows what the future holds.
I am on Ibrance and Fulvestrant for 1 year almost. My hair has not thinned, I wash it everyday and colour it monthly on my week off. I use conditioner once per week. Fingers xd things remain the same. I get it cut every 8 weeks too. Debra xxx😍
I am on the same meds you are and have been for nearly three years. I experienced hair loss at the beginning of my treatment. My onc puts me on a month’s vacation from Ibrance occasionally. Hair loss has stopped and I get color every 6 weeks. Ask your beautician to research the best color that is not harsh. Having my hair colored has not hurt me at all. We need to maintain feeling good about ourselves. I understand how scary it is at first. I was very afraid of color at first. My best to you.-Madlyn
