One of you ladies mentioned Nioxin #3 Shampoo for thinning hair. I would like to order this shampoo but would like to know if it actually stops the hair from falling out. I don't want to spend money on it if my hair is going to fall out anyway. Someone else also mentioned Nizoral Shampoo and Conditioner but that seems to be a dandruff shampoo. I don't have dandruff so maybe that shampoo wouldn't help me. I am getting pretty stressed out about hair loss. I am wondering if anyone has tried castor oil massages and whether that would help?

I would be interested too in feedback for this shampoo. My hair is thinning so badly!

I have increased my dose of thyroid drug and it seems to be slowing down the hair loss but I also put 5 drops of rosemary oil into my shampoo (in about 1 Tbsp. of shampoo) and massage gently around my scalp. I only wash my hair every four days. So....not sure what is working but I keep trying things because something is helping. I think you should try the Rosemary treatment. On line there is also a recipe for an oatmeal hair treatment that is supposed to thicken hair. I haven't tried it yet but it might help. Hugs Marlene

I use the Nioxin. I see less hair in my brush. I alternate it with Pantene because it does seem to dry out my hair. Also that helps with keeping the cost down. I order from Amazon. There are 4 different varieties. I use the one for color- treated hair. Check the return policy-- you can return almost anything on Amazon so if you don't like it, you can return it.

That is good news that Amazon accepts returns. Thank you.

I’ve been using the Nioxin about 6 weeks now. I haven’t noticed less hair falling out yet. Not sure how long it takes. It smells like it should work 😂. It has sort of a menthol smell & feel. I’ll finish the bottles then decide. I’ve never tried the castor oil. I’ve been on IBrance 16 months & my hair just started falling out about 3 months ago.

Hi Hope,

Thank you for responding. I have heard of Nixoral shampoo and Nioxin shampoo (which I think is for dandruff) but not Nixon. I tried to buy the Nioxin at our Walmart here in BC but they don't carry it. I might try to buy it on line. I also might try the castor oil method since I already have a big bottle of it. Thank you for telling me about the Nixon (you probably meant Nioxin is that correct?). Take care and hope it works for you. Hugs Marlene

Yes, I meant Nioxin! Let me know if the castor oil works. All the best! ❤️🙏❤️

I swear by castor oil. I use it on my hair, lashes, and brows. ( The first dose or Taxol took my hair, changed to different chemo due to several s/e) Also, use castor oil on my hands and feet and face- I'm currently on Doxil which causes hand and foot syndrome.

Hope this helps.

Thank you NamasteLove for your response to my hair concerns. It is interesting that you mention castor oil. I have a bottle of that oil and was wondering if it could help me. I guess you massage it into your scalp and lashes etc. I was wondering if it helped you grow your hair back. I am on Ibrance (Palbociclib) and Letrozole and have been on it over a year and the hair loss just started recently. I am somewhat baffled by it. I am also going to ask my GP for a thyroid test. I am hypothyroid and take natural dessicated thyroid for that. Last year an emergency room doctor told me I was over dosed on Thyroid medication and reduced my pills to 1 per day - down from three per day. So maybe now it is too low. I just started taking a kelp supplement and that might help too. But I am very pleased to hear that you like using castor oil. Just really want to know if it helped you grow your hair. Hugs Marlene

Hi :-)

I was on letrozole and faslodex and then switched to ibrance. I did not experience hair loss or hair thinning on any of those. I only lost my hair from Adriamycin and Cyclophosphomide (sp?) and then again with Taxol. It is interesting how different drugs, etc. affect us all differently. But it makes sense because we each have our own physiological make-up.

After the A/C chemo, I used castor oil daily. Strangely, I did not lose my lashes or brows on A/C. I don't have anything to compare it to, but my hair did grow in nicely and full (no thinning). It took several months- slow and steady.

The Taxol took my hair, lashes, and brows out immediately.

Soon after Taxol, I started Doxil- once a month (too many side effects from Taxol)- still continued to use the Castor oil daily. My hair started to grow back within three weeks. My lashes and brows are back now. Hair still short, but growing.

My hair does not appear to be thinner than before, but when it started to grow in after Taxol, it was COMPLETELY gray. Before chemo, it was about 10% gray. It was shocking and a bit humorous. It is now salt and pepper.

I massage the castor oil in my hair after showering- or whenever I remember/ get the urge. I use it on my face at night. It is a thick oil and absorbs well. It doesn't leave that slick, greasy feeling that other oils have.

Ironically, while castor oil has been great for my skin care regimen, I think it may have caused or contributed to my not tolerating Taxol. One of the ingredients in Taxol is castor oil!

If you give it a try, I hope it works for you!

Keep well.

Thank you Nama. I am definitely going to do the castor oil rubs and probably will put it on my face and lashes too. I will let you know in a few weeks if I get any results. It cannot cause harm and I have heard in the past that it grows lashes. I didn't believe it - just thought it was a fish tale but now I am going to take it more seriously because several of you ladies are doing it and feeling like it works. I am now taking extra supplements too and maybe that will help. Just don't want to go bald. I have never had thick hair but it was always soft and had a slight wave. Now it is straight and very dry. The castor oil might make it less dry too. I hope you like your salt and pepper grey hair. Many of my friends are completely grey or salt and pepper grey and I think it is beautiful. My hair is still somewhat brown with some grey - not quite 50/50 yet. But my sister is completely grey and it looks beautiful too. So grey is not something I am concerned with so I hope you also like your colour. Hugs to you and I will get back to you. Marlene

I've heard that Hawthorn Berry Capsules help with hair loss, anybody tried this?

I too have been taking Ibrance and Letrozole for over a year now and my hair loss just got really bad the last couple of months. I did some research and the meds I'm taking for my high blood pressure ( which I never needed until I started Ibrance and Letrozole ) are very likely to cause hairloss, too. I am slowly weaning off those meds and going to take the Hawthorn Berry because that is suppose to lower blood pressure naturally. I was also on Omeprozole for hearburn and that causes hairloss too, so I quit that, also. Hopefully, with all these changes I will quit losing my hair. I was also taking @ 15 ibuprofen daily for my joint pain and that also causes hairloss in women over 60 ( I'm 62 ) so I quit that, too. Ibrance and Letrozole are working really good for me, just can't take the hairloss and joint pain.

Thank you Sammie for responding to my concerns.

Yes, I am also experiencing hair loss. I am also having an allergic reaction in the past few days to something causing severe itching. I am taking Benadryl to reduce the itchyness. And I have a call in to my doctor. The itching might be related to an antibiotic I have just finished.

I was on Macrobid (an antibiotic) for a bladder infection and the nurse I spoke to thinks that the antibiotic caused the allergic reaction. I am waiting to hear back from my doctor.

I have been on Letrozole and Palbociclib for 20 cycles. I just started on cycle 21 and I have been doing really well on these medications. So I hope I am not starting to become allergic to them. I guess time will sort this all out.

I hate the hair loss because I have always had quite thin hair so I don't have much to lose. My hair loss also came on suddenly just recently. I refuse to wear a wig so if it continues to fall out I will just wear scarves. But the good news is that the hair loss seems to have slowed down. I got my hair cut quite short and that seems to have helped. I will check out the health food store for Hawthorn berry. My husband also has slightly elevated blood pressure so I will mention it to him. But, my husband has started taking a herbal medicine for his prostate problems and after absolutely 20 or more years of troubles the herbal medicine seems to be working. None of the prescription drugs have worked so he is over joyed. The herb he is taking is called Chanca Piedra which is Spanish for breaking up stones. Because I get bladder infections I will begin taking it too but first I have to solve the allergic reaction I am experiencing.

Christmas was a real bugger because I went off my healthy diet so now I will try to get back on eating a lot of raw foods. I cannot go completely raw but I am trying for just over 50 percent. I met a man recently who cured his lung cancer with a 100 percent raw diet. It only took four months for him to get results. So far I just cannot go completely raw. I have tried. Although I will keep trying. I have never been known for being disciplined but I am trying hard to reform my attitude. I also heard that fasting helps and I have done a bit of that - but, of course, I fall off the wagon. But each time I try I feel good and should keep it up.

Sammie, I wish I could think of something to help you with the bone pain. I really don't know but you might try stinging nettle tea. You can buy the dried nettle at the health food stores and they do seem to be a very healing herb. You might also try CBD. It is the non- high part of the marijuana plant. I think it helps people with pain. I don't think it reacts with the Ibrance and Letrozole. I take my cancer drugs in the evening so take herbal meds early in the day. However, I have stopped taking herbals for a few days just until I get this allergic reaction under control.

I sure appreciate hearing from you and will look into Hawthorne berry.

Hugs to you and HAPPY NEW YEAR. Marlene

Well, I went off my two prescriptions for blood pressure ( I slowly weaned myself off this last week ) and started taking Hawthorn Berry capsules and Hibiscus tea and dark chocolate and 1 hour of exercise a day and so far my blood pressure has been lower then when on the meds! I also started CBD oil for sleeping and pain. The hair loss has seemed to slow down. I'm like you, I will not wear a wig...either take me like I am or I will wear a hat when needed.

Sammy, thank you for all that wonderful information. I just came to my computer to send you a message and noticed that you sent me some more information relating to your blood pressure. I am so pleased that it seems to be working for you. Wow! Using natural methods to lower blood pressure is wonderful. I might have trouble talking my husband into something like that but I will try to convince him. You are a real trooper and I hope you continue to find ways to heal yourself. I hope that all of us find a path towards health.

What I came to the computer to tell you is that I remembered something that might help you with your hair loss. I told you that my hair loss seems to have slowed down and maybe even stopped. What I have been doing regularly is putting about five drops of rosemary oil into my shampoo. I pour my shampoo into a very small container and then add about 5 drops of the rosemary oil. This does me for two or three shampoos. I shampoo with this mixture about every four days.

When I am in the shower, I wet my hair and massage the shampoo with the rosemary oil gently throughout my hair and leave it in and then soap down my body and then rinse my hair and my body thoroughly.

I read on line that rosemary oil is the only remedy that has proven scientific evidence that it regrows hair. The other thing I do to my hair about every ten days is to massage castor oil throughout my hair. I use only organic castor oil. It is thick and sticky but I massage it throughout all my hair and then I put a towel over my pillow case and go to bed. In the morning I shampoo it out. It might take shampooing twice to get it all out. My hair feels quite nourished when I do this. I should do it more often but don't like the stickiness of it. There is no scientific proof that it works but many women swear by castor oil for thickening hair, eyebrows and lashes. So maybe you could give it a try.

I don't know why I forgot all this but it might be because I am suffering from an allergic reaction to the antibiotic I took for a UTI. The Benadryl I take makes me a bit dopey. I feel a bit better tonight and the allergic reaction might be subsiding. Anyway, forgive me for forgetting these things because they might help you. I don't know if it is really helping me but my hair doesn't seem to be falling any more and it feels generally better.

Please let me know if you have any results with this method.

I just hope this helps you too. I think it really helps just to be doing something. Optimism goes a long way towards healing.

Hugs Marlene

My concern is toxicity. I only use organic products. Not sure about which ones might help with hair growth.

Hey Viennagirl,I have been having hair thinning also really bad. I have very thick hair and it use to be very long but I cut it to see if that would help with the hair loss. However I am going to try Castor oil along with a few drops of frankincense on my scalp. I actually use to wrap my breast in the oil and the frankincense at night. They say castor oil is really good for alot of different ailments. I will let you know in a few weeks how it's working! I pray over my hair!! 😊🙏
