Mastectomy and MBC

Hey. I am so confused.

I have had chemo and now on Herceptin, Prejeta and Zometa.

Last scan NED.

Onc says no benefit to have mastectomy. I am not wanting surgery but I hear so many taking about have mastectomy

What is the answer?

Hi Onedayatatime60, NED is good news. If there is no evidence of disease then you do not need the mastectomy. If the primary tumor was still there then you could push for it. For now I would just wait and see, you are in a good place.

Thanks for the reassurance. I thought the same and my Onc is wonderful , I trust him completely, but can't help myself looking at research papers on pubmed etc

Your Oncologist is right. There are no benefits to having surgery except are getting rid of one source of Cancer. I had the surgery because the tumour broke through the skin. Was relatively easy surgery.

Hi , I’m on the same regimen as you for the last three years . I wanted a mastectomy but my Oncologist was of the opinion that the horse had bolted so there was no point . I had one lesion on my spine that was Cyberknifed . I had my 4 monthly scan today so fingers crossed 🤞 . I’m seeing him tomorrow for results . It’s head wrecking . .

Thank you , all stable thank god . Continuing on Herceptin and Perjeta . My oncologist won’t use Remission or NED .? He said I could use NEAD ( no evidence of active disease ) if it made me feel better but stable is the accurate term . 😁
