NHS reports positive results for RLS sufferers from a 2011 trial carried out by Manchester University. Has anyone checked it out or better still, has anyone confirmed the results of the trial and found the technique to be beneficial ?
Anyone tried PRM ( Positional Release... - Restless Legs Syn...
Anyone tried PRM ( Positional Release Manipulation) ?
Can you say where you saw this....I would like to read about it....I think, i have seen this before, but not sure its the same thing... If its the one i am thinking of, it was a small trial and needs a bigger one to get better results on whether it is helpful for RLS..
Hi Elisse,
this is the site I saw it on
nhs.uk/Conditions/Restless-...
I have asked a Physiotherapist that I know for her views and will post a Blog when I hear from her. Better than winning the Lotto if we could all do without the drugs !! Hopefully there is light at the end of the tunnel !
Back again Elisse, the link did not copy across very well. If you look at the "treatment" section for RLS on the NHS site you will find the small mention about it. I then followed up with a Google search where you can all the details of the trial.
Hope this helps
Cheers,
Hi Elisse, I'm more than surprised to have ony received interest from yourself on this subject. I thought people would be jumping up and down with excitement at the prospect of perhaps being able to dispense with drugs altogether !!
I spoke with a Physiotherapist friend but unfortunately she tells me that this technique would be outside the remit of Physiotherapy. It's probably Osteopathic but I don't know anyone in that field.
PS I have posted a Q on the NHS site asking if any sufferers have followed up on this trial.
Did you make any progress ?
I think that there was someone on this site, who's name i have forgotten, who actually had the manipulation. Cant remember what the outcome was, but i know he sent in info on where it could be done, it was way out of my location to get to, so i didnt follow it up.
The study you are referrring to used only 20 patients over 6 weeks, so very small and short trial. It may or may not help. Who knows? but, a small study like that when there are millions of RLS sufferers really does not tell us that much. I had to google past the artcile you listed to get the pdf file for the study. anything that is only 6 wks long with that small amount of RLSer's, and some were non-RLSer's, gives a place to start, but that is it. Same with drug trials. not enough people, and they usually only last 12 wks, and as we all know problems can pop up anytime. so, these people could have been having a quiet period of RLs, which happens a LOT. 6 wks is barely enough time to establish any pattern at all. Just know this from what I have studied.
brighton.ac.uk/ncor/osteo_r... This is the PDF file of the study.
I have had positional release treatment this afternoon, for the first time. I shall let you know how it evolves.
